Dear Friends of Jesus, Some of the greatest words a person can hear are, “Paid in Full!” You just made your last car payment – paid in full! You just made your last student loan payment – paid in full! You just made your last house payment – paid in full! There is something freeing about paying off

a debt and not being a slave to the lender. You see, when you owe on a loan it means that you have to make payments every month. And if you don’t, you get charged more interest and you owe even more. But when you pay off a debt it gives you the freedom to use that money for something else, including putting it into savings if you wish. On June 11, 2009 we, Christ Lutheran Church, began making monthly payments to Lutheran Church Extension Fund in the amount of $16,470.00 to pay on the loan of $2,855,000.00 for the Activity Center. The actual cost of the building was over 3 million, but we were able to pay for some of the building as it was being built. By the time you read this letter the last payment has been made and by the grace of God the Activity Center is PAID IN FULL! No more debt, no more wondering if we will have enough money to make the payment because we are debt free. It’s miraculous! In less than ten years God has provided all that we needed. Was it easy, no! Were there sacrifices, yes! Was there ever a doubt, maybe by us but not with God! God worked through you, His people, to bring glory and honor to Him alone. In Ephesians 3:20-21 we read,

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,

according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in

Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” God not only provided the resources we needed, more importantly many of us grew in our faith as we gave sacrificially trusting in His promises to provide for us as well.

The really good news is that the debt we owed because of our sins has been PAID IN

FULL! Jesus, God’s Son, sacrificially came into our world of sin and lived the life we could never live (He lived perfectly), died in our place on Calvary enduring the full wrath of God

because of our sins, and rose again to give all believers new life. In John 3:16 we read, "For

God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that

whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” We will not die but live because our debt has been paid in full

by Jesus. My friends, we have a lot to celebrate. We are

celebrating that our debt on our Activity Center has been paid and we are debt free. But more

importantly, as Christians, we celebrate that we have been set free from sin, death and the

devil. All because God does immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be

glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

The 2019 school year has officially ended! We are busy in the office making plans for the coming year and having updates made around campus. We are getting new flooring in several rooms, painting others, hopefully getting 4 bathrooms remodeled and adding electronic security gates to the drive through areas. All while trying to dance around VBS and Summer Camp activities! Pray for us! :) I am also excited to share some of the comments from the Accreditation Team:

Yuma Lutheran School does a great job in creating a family atmosphere on campus.

Relationship building is a priority and was evident through observations, interviews and survey results.

Yuma Lutheran desires to share the Gospel with the children in their classrooms

and to help them find their God-given talents. Jesus is present in each and every classroom. The students are engaged in many well-rounded opportunities to grow in

their faith and academically.

Yuma Lutheran School should be commended for having a school nurse on staff. In

addition, YLS does a good job of ensuring the safety of the campus. This year, YLS has hired an armed security guard and has a plan to further secure the campus.

The school has a well laid out campus facility with sufficient space in classrooms,

outside for playing and in the gym. Some concerns include:

The back parking lot, which is used as a play area for recess, needs to be resurfaced.

In talking with the school and church boards, they are aware of this and have plans to complete this project.

The school does not have a daytime janitor. A person on campus taking care of these responsibilities would help with up keep of the facility and also relieve administration of this burden.

A church-school strategic plan needs to be created so that administration knows the

direction the church wants the school to go in. We are excited to get started on the list of recommendations and list that we created to develop our programs and grow as a school!

Thank you for being nice! Have a wonderful

day! (big smiley face!) What a great message! Obviously with permission to share since it is directed to “who is reading this”. I believe it was left there by one of our YLS students. Great advice from a very wise young person!

It made me ask myself--how nice are you? Oh—pretty nice when I have my Sunday morning face on—or when I want to impress someone. Or when everything is going well and I’m in a good mood. But, am I ALWAYS nice? Do I always treat others with respect and kindness? What about at home with my family? Makes one think, that’s for sure!

Jesus said we should love others as HE

has loved us! (John 15:12) and to Love your

neighbor as yourself. (Mt. 19:19b) Eph. 4:32 says, “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave

you”. Rom. 12:10 tells us,“Love each other

with genuine affection, and take delight in

honoring each other”.

That’s just a very small sampling of how God tells us we should treat others. Saying Hi to your neighbor and always smiling everyday are important parts of how God wants us to treat others. What about letting someone new play with you at recess? This youngster definitely was on the lookout for someone who was in need of a play companion or a kind word! That’s something we could all learn from! How often are we noticing someone outside our “crowd” who looks like he or she could use a kind word, some encouragement, or just a friendly gesture? It’s easy to get caught up with our friends—OR just ourselves and never notice others around us. Sometimes, just a genuine smile, or friendly gesture can lift a person’s

spirit. I know someone who makes it a practice to be looking around for those people. For instance, at a party or other gathering, she has been known to excuse herself from a group conversation to go over and start up a conversation with someone standing alone and looking very lonely and uncomfortable. She says it’s because SHE’s BEEN that person and knows how it feels! You say you’re too shy to walk up to someone you don’t know and start talking? You’re not alone! But the trick is to stop thinking about how YOU feel and focus on how that other person feels. And then notice

how grateful they seem to see a friendly face!

THIS APPLIES TO OUR CHURCH

LIFE as well! Ever visited another church

and no one came up to greet you? Feel like a piece of the wallpaper? Chopped liver?

Church is the perfect place to start noticing

strangers and showing hospitality to them. God tells us, “Do not neglect to show

hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have

entertained angels unawares”. Hebrews 13:2

We can learn a lot from children when we are willing to listen! Let this youngster

remind us to say Hi to our neighbor, smile

every day and let someone new play with us

at recess! And God bless our children as they grow in Him and as they teach us simple

truths about CONNECTING PEOPLE TO

CHRIST!

“If you have love for one another, then everyone will know that you are my disciples.” ~ John 13:35

“This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we

loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” ~ 1 John 4:9-10

“They will know we are Christians by our love...by our love. They will know we are Christians by our love.” Recently Pastor Harman ended his sermon titled “Real Love” with these words. It had been many years since I had heard the words to this song, “They’ll Know We Are Christians” or also known as “We Are One in the Spirit.” The words seemed much more meaningful now

than they did years ago when we would sing them around the campfire at Bible camp in northern Minnesota. It is a Christian hymn written in the 1960’s by the late Father Peter Scholtes. It was inspired by John 13:35. “If you have love for one another, then everyone will know that you are my disciples.” Interestingly the title of the hymn, “They’ll Know We Are Christians by our Love” originated in a phrase that non-believers used to describe Christian believers of the early church. “Behold, how they love one another.” They were setting a good example of CAREing for each other...and it was noticed by others. This is what Pastor Harman was instructing us to do during his sermon. We are to live our lives according to 1 Corinthians 13:4. Love is patient...Love is kind...Love is not being envious (being content in our lives)...Love is not being boastful...Love is not being proud (be humble)...Love is not being rude (be polite)...Love is not being easily angered...etc. If we do these things people will notice that we live our lives differently as people that CARE for each other and they will know we are Christians by our love and our actions. “We will work with each other, we will

work side by side. And we’ll guard each man’s dignity and save each man’s pride. And they will know we are Christians. By our love...by our love. Yeah, they’ll know we are Christians by our love.” Is this how you live your life? Do you live your life as a Christian...or do you just say you are a Christian? That is a very thought provoking statement. If we are living

as a Christian we may be influencing the lives of those around us...they may want “what we have.” Think about the people that have been in your life that you can say have had an

influence on your faith journey because of their Christian walk. The pastor I had for Confirmation, Pastor Mattys Van Steen, influenced my life as a teenager. His belief in me and his support guided me to be the church organist for over 3 years. Helga, an 80 year old lady that I would visit weekly when I was a young mother taught me about living according to 1 Corinthians 13:4. She was content with her life in her little home… making her own TV dinners and making crafts out of leftovers. She took in mending and treated everyone fairly and with love. You knew she was a Christian...by her love. Move forward many years...there was Diane. Everyone knew and loved her and everyone KNEW she was a Christian by her love...it flowed from her soul! She was available to anyone at any time with her prayers and CARE-ing spirit. There was Clint. A man with so many challenges after his major stroke...just watching him get to church you knew he was special. He walked very slowly moving one leg at a time and his one hand was curled up tightly...being of no use to him. It was not easy. Everything was difficult for Clint. But getting to church was everything to him. You knew he was a Christian by his effort and his

love for the Lord and his church! Then there was Helen. Her sight was pretty much gone but she was still inspiring and a great influence with her wisdom and total devotion to God. Just sitting and listening to her was life at its best. There have been many others. God puts many people in our path...each one guiding us in a different way to walk our life for the Lord. Who have been the influences in your life? Who has God put in your path to guide you on your faith journey? To help you LOVE and CARE more. When someone reflects on the people influencing their journey...you just might be one of them. That is something

worth striving for...to be a Christian influence to others. Living so others KNOW you are a Christian...by your love. How amazing that must be...to be thought of as a disciple of God, as written in John 13: 35! Live your life as God made you to be! Be One in the Spirit!

Church Service CD Ministry-Please keep Dottie in your prayers as she had knee replacement surgery at the end of May. Mary will be delivering the CDs while she recovers.

May God give Dottie her mobility back...as she has more of His work to do! If you would like a CD delivered or mailed to you please contact the church office.

Greeting Card Ministry-If there is someone that you miss from CLC that has moved from Yuma...contact the church office for their address and stay connected with them! They are missing you too! Jean continues to send cards to members of CLC that need to know they are in our thoughts and prayers.

Meals Ministry-Shelly is very grateful for the ladies that are always available in providing meals when requested. Your nourishing meal and visit always helps a family at a challenging time. If it would help to have a meal brought to you at times please let the CARE coordinator know...we want to help you! Also...it may be someone you know that could use this help instead.

CARE Baskets-Kay is putting her good cooking/baking skills to work. The CARE baskets involve these goodies lately...which are appreciated by those receiving these gifts of love! Her talents include gluten free goodies...so she and Don can deliver to all appetites!

Military Ministry-An update on last month’s

report...Ella Ebey is slowly recovering from her major spine surgery. This little 6 year old is slowly learning to walk again. Praise God! Please keep all of our deployed military in your prayers...along with their families. May God be with each of them as he keeps them safe until they are united again! Because of their sacrifices...we all can worship our Lord openly!

Prayer Shawl Ministry-If you know of anyone who would find comfort in a prayer shawl around their weary shoulders or lap...please contact the church office. It can be delivered or mailed to them. It is a “hug” from

CLC! As people have received a prayer shawl in the past...they continue to find them a comfort as they face other difficulties in their lives. The prayers said when the shawl was made...keep on supporting and comforting endlessly. That is CARE-ing!

Prayer Network Ministry-To be able to pray

for others in their time of need is a great privilege as a Christian. We must not take this lightly...but spend time, wherever we are...to ask God for His guidance and wisdom in CARE-ing for His children. The power of these prayers is amazing and can make such a difference in the lives of others and bring us closer to our Lord.

Jr. High and High School Youth Ministry through the Summer:

The Youth Groups will continue with the current students, with the just graduated 8th graders remaining with the Jr. High Group.

The Jr. High Youth Group will meet on THURSDAYS, 6-8pm, and dinner

will continue to be included. The High School Youth Group will continue to meet on SUNDAYS, 6-

8pm, with dinner also included, as students will also continue to prepare for the National Youth Gathering in July.

Nursery Care is available FREE for 6mo. to 3yrs. during the 11am service in

the building across the parking lot. Please ask an usher for directions. A

pager is given to parents in case of emergency. Volunteers are background

checked and CPR trained.

All children ages 3 years old through 6th grade are invited to join us for a worship experience just for kids!!

Every Sunday! 9:30-10:45am

TREASURER’S REPORT At Christ Lutheran Church, we use a fiscal year that runs July 1 of one year to June 30 of the next.

Note from the Treasurer: 83% of the church’s fiscal year is gone and the General Fund shows

an overall shortfall for the budgeted year. In April we had a shortfall of 15%.

The March Faithful God, Faithful Givers contributions were short of making the payment by 33%. The year-to-date shortage for this effort is 14%. Praise God the loan has been PAID IN FULL! *Church General Funds are needed to pay costs incurred to run the operation of our many ministries. Examples include

air conditioning, salaries, supplies, etc.

**Building Fund offerings are needed to make the Church monthly mortgage payment of $16,897 on our existing

facilities.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a

cheerful giver. ~2 Corinthians 9:7

During the Lenten season, the congregation began a Journey to Jerusalem, traveling 7,563 virtual miles from Yuma to Jerusalem through our steps and miles, and Bible reading. Over 50 participants from the congregation of all ages

traveled with the Lord in their heart. People walked alone, as a couple, as a Scout Troup, did water aerobics, biked, ran, and read the Bible! Some pushed themselves...and some continued on their normal exercise plan...each working towards the goal of arriving at Jerusalem. Al achieved over 1350 miles and Thomas, a high school sophomore, compiled over 650 miles! But just as impressive we had many that faithfully walked and read as much as they could...getting anywhere from 15 miles to 350 miles total! Amazing! When the numbers were tallied at the end of Lent we were about 900 miles short of our goal. (More miles came in later...in fact the full 7,563 miles was achieved within about 3 weeks after Easter.) But, praise the Lord! Jesus achieved His goal. He died on the cross for our sins and rose from the grave

on Easter morning. Alleluia!!! Alleluia! Continue to exercise your “temples” that Christ gave you...including your spirit by reading the Bible. Alleluia! THANK YOU to everyone that participated in the Journey to Jerusalem...your effort and time were a blessing to CLC!
