John Seitz and his wife, Lia, moved to Greenville from Alaska in 2012. They are newlyweds. Their interests are kayaking, hiking, reading, bird watching, gardening, writing poetry, learning new communication skills for the enhancement of relationships, and social endeavors that support UU and the community.

Getting to Know You! Coffee, snacks, and fellowship have moved to the new Fellowship Hall at the opposite end of the building from the Sanctuary (on the same floor). Please join us after service; all are welcome. We look forward to getting to know you better, even if you think we already know you pretty well.

So happy for our daughter, Lauren, and husband, Mike. Lauren is recovering well and she and her husband and their baby, Miles Davis, are set to have a comfortable and prosperous 2015 and beyond – Candy Kern-Fuller and Richard Fuller.
A few more days (December 23) of decreasing daylight hour, then after that day, spring is coming! Just be patient – Peter Gross.
Pat and Sandy Howard celebrated 32 years together on 12/27.

Do you have a sermon topic on which you'd like to hear Pat preach? Would you like to give a sermon on a particular
subject some Sunday? If so, you're in luck!
The Worship Associates will be meeting on Saturday, January 24th to discuss sermon topics and guest speakers for the next three or four months.
If you'd like to share an idea for consideration, please contact Ed Proulx or another member of the Sunday Services committee. During the meeting,
the Worship Associates and Pat will vote on all submitted ideas.
Don't be shy! Over the past few months, some of our most memorable sermons (like those by Chantal Haskell and Maureen Nery) have been given
by folks who are not members of the Sunday Services committee.

APPEAL FOR A MISSING GODDESS
Goddess of compassion, Kuan Yin, is missing from her
garden home outside the downstairs GUUF kitchen door!
She has been missing for too long now; her absence has been noticed with despair by the Women's Group who
gave her that home in honor of our long-time member and past-president of GUUF, Karin Rolett. If anyone
knows of her whereabouts, please help Kuan Yin find her
way back to her hallowed place SOON! – Jean Blank
GAIHN WEEK JANUARY 11 – 18, 2015
We are looking forward to having individuals, families, and groups within
the GUUF community help provide a caring environment for the homeless parents and children who will be with us for a week in January. The families
are part of the Greenville Area Interfaith Hospitality Network.
The Greenville Area Interfaith Hospitality Network
(GAIHN) is a non-profit organization that has a mission to help people who are homeless to become gainfully
employed so that they can be financially independent, find adequate housing and provide for their families.
Often the families are in the program for several weeks or months while they deal with the obstacles that face them. During the
day, the families go to the Greenville Areas Interfaith Network office where
they have counselors who work with them to find ways to address the issues that are contributing to their homelessness. Each week, the families
go to a different church where they are housed, fed, and given encouragement and support. This is a wonderful opportunity to serve
families who are in need.
Our families will arrive in the afternoon on Sunday, January 11th and stay
until Sunday, January 18th. During GAIHN week, volunteers will be helping with preparing evening meals, staying overnight, entertaining children, set
up, clean up, etc.
Many of the volunteer positions for GAIHN week are filled (Thank you!).
However, we still have a few openings in some areas.

LONG STRANGE TRIP: UU HISTORY Led by Jackie Weddington and Karen Conrad Sunday mornings through December 28 9:30-10:45, Women’s Room
This fascinating video and discussion series from the UUA explores the history of Unitarian and Universalist thought and practice, beginning with
the early Gnostics to what we know today as Unitarian Universalism. The
journey has been an exciting one, full of heretics, truth-seekers, mystics, and people who have loved justice. It is the amazing story of how we
became who we are today.
DISCUSSION GROUP Sunday mornings, 9:45-10:45, Founder’s Room
The Discussion Group is the longest running group at GUUF! They meet every Sunday to discuss topics of interest, with the third Sunday of the
month devoted to short story readings and discussions. There is coffee,

Neighboring Faiths--Judaism Field Trip Friday, January 9, 7 PM
Middle Schoolers and chaperones will attend services at Temple Beth Israel on Summit Drive. Meet in the Temple parking lot at 6:45.
Parent Orientation for Middle School OWL January 25, 12:30-2:30 PM Lunch and Childcare provided We are pleased to offer the Junior High OWL Curriculum to youth grades 7-9 this year. Students must commit to three weekend lock-ins: Feb. 6-7, Feb.20-21, March 6-7 The parent orientation session is mandatory for parents of participants, and lasts about 2 hours.
Special Friends Week February 9-13 You Are Never Too Old to Make New Friends! Adults pair with children in the congregation and send valentines during the week of Valentine’s Day. On that Sunday, there is a big reveal and a lunch party. This lovely program has built some long-lasting intergenerational friendships in our Fellowship. Sign up begins Sunday, January 4.
GREEN COMMITTEE MEETING The Green Committee will meet at 12:30 pm Sunday, January 4 in the
Conference Room. If you’re interested in helping GUUF maintain its status as a UUA-certified Green Sanctuary,

Membership Sunday
Membership Sunday takes place on the first Sunday of every odd-numbered month immediately following the service. Anyone wishing to join the Fellowship is invited to meet in the choir room where you will “sign the book” and we will share stories of our spiritual journeys. You will also be provided with a packet of information about the Fellowship at that time. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact one of our Membership Co-Chairs, Debbie Plonkey at (864) 322-5174 or Liz McGrory – (410) 924-6245. During construction, if the meeting place changes we will announce it during the service
