acted out Christmas plays. These plays are

still performed in towns and villages.

The English gift giver is called Father

Christmas. He wears a long red or green

robe, and leaves presents in stockings on

Christmas Eve. However, the gifts are not

usually opened until the following afternoon.

Christmas in England began in

AD596, when St Augustine landed on her

shores with monks who wanted to bring

Christianity to the Anglo Saxons. Father

Christmas delivers them during the night

before Christmas.

Jingle Bells:

Dashing through the snow

On a one-horse open sleigh

Over the fields we go

Laughing all the way;

Bells on bob-tail ring

making spirits bright

What fun it is to ride and sing

A sleighing song tonight

Jingle bells

O what fun it is to ride

On a one horse open sleigh
