Book Report Assigned on October 23, 2012 Date Due: December 3, 2012 The student must use a chapter book that they have read this year. They may have read it for nightly reading, during Small Group Reading, or just for fun. It must be no more than 100 points below, or 50 points above, their current Lexile, unless it is a Battle of the Books book. The student will need the book to do the report. Oral Presentation: 1.Book’s title 2.Book’s author 3.Characters and setting 4.Short summary (3-5 sentences that tell who, what, when, where, why, and how) 5.What is the theme, or lesson? 6.How did the book make you feel, or what did you like about the book? Give 2-3 details to support your answer. 7.Would you recommend this book to others to read? Why? Who? 8.Have the book with you to show the class, and in case I would like to look at it. (Be able to tell all of your information, not just read it. Do not read from your tree. Do not turn your back on the audience. You may use notes, but maintain eye contact with audience. Stand straight without twisting or leaning. You will have to practice your presentation at home!!) Late projects will not be able to receive any credit for the oral presentation. Visual Presentation (Poster): Some examples: 1.Christmas tree green (not lime green) poster board cut in the shape of a Christmas tree (Do not use foam board, cardboard, or other materials. Do not paint your tree green or glue green material on it to make it green. Make the tree as large as regular size poster board - no larger or smaller.) See Mrs. Thomas if you are not able to purchase a piece of poster board. 2.Must have 7 labeled ornaments that portray information from the book (1. characters, 2. setting, 3. problem – what the characters were having trouble with, or trying to solve, 4. connection – to self, world, or text, 5. author’s purpose 6. 2- or 3-sentence summary, 7. resolution – how the problem is solved) 3.Each ornament will include the label (i.e. Characters), a picture you draw (should be colored and have details and background), and a sentence (that explains what the ornament is). Sentences may be neatly written or typed.
