The aroma of roaring fires mingling with the fresh smell of pine from the Christmas trees is really quite magical and we’re keen to get the celebrations started.

The Christmas Experience

CHRISTMAS EVE Arrive at Bovey Castle for a host of festive activities including cider & sloe gin making followed by afternoon tea and a storyteller for all the family. We offer an early children’s high tea in Smith’s Brasserie. Your evening includes welcome drinks and a five course dinner. CHRISTMAS DAY Enjoy breakfast, followed by a visit from Father Christmas, who will be giving out gifts for our younger guests. In the morning enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery on the estate by trying out our brass rubbing trail. The revelry begins with a drinks reception, followed by a fabulous Christmas Day lunch in The Great Western Restaurant. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the Queen’s speech, tea and Christmas cake. An informal dinner will be served in the evening. BOXING DAY After breakfast sign up for the golf tournament, join us for a guided walk, or take part in our treasure hunt around the Castle and grounds. In the afternoon our much loved ferret racing is a firm favourite, as is our ‘nearest the pin’ golf competition on the South Terrace, served with hot chocolate or mulled wine. Family activities are available all day. A savoury and sweet afternoon tea will also be served in the Cathedral Room throughout the afternoon. Our storyteller will keep the children entertained, followed by high tea and a festive movie. Finish your day with a five course black tie dinner in The Great Western Restaurant followed by musical entertainment.

New Year’s EveArrive for an afternoon tea served in one of our beautiful lounges. We offer an early children’s high tea in Smith’s Brasserie for the younger children. Dress for our Black Tie event and then the festivities begin with a Champagne and canapé reception accompanied by a piper, followed by a six course gala dinner in The Great Western restaurant with live entertainment. At midnight bring in the New Year watching the fantastic firework display from our South Terrace.

New Year’s DayAfter the previous night’s revelry, enjoy a leisurely brunch. Blow away the cobwebs on a guided walk or take part in our treasure hunt around the Castle and grounds or our golf tournament. A savoury afternoon tea will be served, followed by ferret racing and the ‘nearest the pin’ golf competition on the South Terrace. There will be family activities available during the day and children’s high tea will again be available in Smith’s Brasserie. Live music will be playing in one of our lounges whilst you enjoy a glass of Champagne prior to the New Year’s Day celebration 5 course dinner which will be served in The Great Western restaurant.

Take exclusive use of your own private lodge for you and your family this festive season. Luxuriously furnished with beautiful views over the estate, these self-catering lodges are a wonderful way to spend the festive holidays with friends or family.

Even though you are based in the grounds the incredible thing about a break away in one of our lodges is that you have grounds, the Elan Spa and estate activities on your doorstep.

Whilst you may enjoy preparing your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen, there are a selection of delicious meals, including traditional Christmas Day lunch, which can be pre-ordered and delivered to your lodge.
