CHROMATIC WARM-UP ETUDEBy Michael FairbrotherHere is a quick warm-up exercise to get your fingers limbered up and ready to play. It is based around the chromatic scale and covers a lot of the fretboard. Take note of the string skipping that occurs within the first six bars, although this should not be that difficult as you will end with your pinky and reach across the strings with your index finger. Also, there is frequent use of position shifting throughout the piece. The etude ends with a monster stacked E5 chord that will give your fingers a good stretch, as well as some natural harmonics sprinkled on to give the finishing touches. I recommend starting out slowly at about 60bpm. You could always gradually work your way up to 120bpm (or more) if you would like more of a challenge. However, this etude is more about warming up your fingers for more serious playing and is not a race... so go at your own pace.
