WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION
Golazo Cycling Ltd (GCL) welcome you to the 5th edition of the Tour of Cambridgeshire (ToC).
After five years, we’re still learning and growing as an event but in the process, we’re re-defining
the mass participation cycle sport scene in the UK. The UCI regard the Tour of Cambridgeshire as
being one of the best mass participation cycle events in the World and we really hope you enjoy
the experience. We go to great lengths to create an event experience which gives the masses and
many of our competitive elite level riders a real taste of what the best organised events around
the world are like for amateurs and professionals alike. Our vision is to create a pro experience
for everyday amateur and Master cyclists, as well as increase the level of participation in cycling
through our event.
ToC is not just about the riders at the front of the age classifications; it is about providing exactly
the same professional experience for everyone, including people who love their cycling but do
not have the taste, or the appetite, for the cut and thrust of a race. The Tour of Cambridgeshire
is for all ages and abilities of riders, from the young ones on their balance bikes taking part in the
Family Fondo, to those using ToC100 as a life time challenge or fundraising opportunity, to those
who’s ambition is to win the UCI rainbow jersey and compete for their country at the World
Championships. The opportunity to experience the spectacle on fully supported closed roads is a
rare treat in the UK.
With the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships coming to Glasgow in 2023, we are always
striving to perfection when it comes to facilitating the opportunity for everyday riders in the most
vibrant cycling nation on earth to compete for a rainbow jersey on home soil. GCL holds the UCI
license as the exclusive qualifier event for the UGFWC.
We do hope you all enjoy a safe positive experience riding the Tour of Cambridgeshire, and don’t
forget, we’re open to all feedback to ensure we grow and get better year on year.
Finally, we would like to offer thanks to all of those organisations who have partnered with us to create something unique on the British landscape and who have backed us to deliver the Tour of Cambridgeshire. We do hope we do them all proud.

ARRIVAL AT THE EVENT AND PARKING
We would like to offer you a warm and heartfelt welcome to ToC 2019 and wish you a safe
journey both to and from the event.
The Event HQ location is East of England Showground and Arena, Peterborough, PE2 6HE.
TRAVELLING BY CAR
To ensure your experience is at the highest level possible from start to finish, you MUST avoid a
rush and last minute arrivals. Late arrivals can cause major issues and spoil the whole experience
we have created. We encourage all riders to arrive early, soak up the atmosphere, grab a bite to
eat and have a wander through the Bike Show.
To make things easy, we have a huge Event HQ site, with parking available for 10’s of thousands
of vehicles! To get to the Event HQ, use the postcode PE2 6HE. There is Official Event Parking
available at the Event HQ. Tiered parking charges will be in place on according to the day and
time of arrival at the Event HQ. All parking charges can be found at
www.tourofcambridgeshire.com. There is no overnight parking within the Official Event Parking
areas.
The reason for the tiered parking charges is to encourage as many riders to take advantage of the
free of charge parking prior to 7.00am on Sunday. To ensure that we can hold future events, we
have to avoid queuing traffic on the road networks, including motorways, around the Event HQ.
These charges have been stipulated by the local authorities.
You will have access to and from your vehicle, aswell as to and from the Event HQ throughout the
duration of the event.
When you have parked your vehicle, you will find directional signage to the Event HQ.

TRAVELLING BY TRAIN
Peterborough Station is serviced by LNER, with the station being only 45mins from London Kings
Cross and approximately one hour from Leeds. The Peterborough railway station is
approximately 5 miles away from the Event HQ.
It is possible to get to Event HQ from the station on bike while avoiding major roads and there is
also a dedicated cycle path.
TRAVELLING BY BIKE OR FOOT
If you’re travelling by bike, the safest route to take is via Oundle Road, Brimbles Way and enter the Event HQ through Dunblane Drive.
If you’re travelling by foot, we have two pedestrian access points – one can be found via the Dunblane Drive entrance and the other can be found off the roundabout north entrance of the site.

along with a piece of photo identity.

a Race License to take part in the UCI Chrono.
Rider numbers will be published on the website - www.tourofcambridgeshire.com – two weeks
prior to the event. You will find these under the Rider Info section.
When you arrive within the Registration Area, you’ll find the Chrono registration, which will be
ordered alphabetically. Our Event Solutions Team will be on hand ready to deal with any of your

WHAT’S IN THE RIDER PACKS
RIDER NUMBER
You’ll find your Rider Number within your Rider Pack. Instructions on where your rider number
needs to be positioned will be found in your Rider Pack. Don’t forget to bring 4 safety pins with
you.
If you have ridden in any other event, ensure you have the correct number on the for the event
you’re taking part in; you will have a different rider number for each event you take part in.
Your rider number will be the UCI masters age group colour as below:
Men Age Group Women Age Group Rider Number Colour
19-34 19-34 White
35-39 35-39 Pink

TIMING CHIP STICKER
Along with your Rider Number, your timing chip is very important. Without this, or if you place it
in the incorrect position, you won’t receive a finishing time.
Within your pack, you’ll find a briefing sheet as to where everything is to be placed. At the top of
this sheet, you’ll find a sticker with your Rider Number on it. This sticker contains your timing
chip. Follow the instructions that come with the Helmet Sticker to ensure you place it in the
correct position.
If you have ridden in any other event, ensure you have the correct timing chip number on the for
the event you’re taking part in; you will have a different rider number for each event you take
part in.
If you lose your timing chip before the start of the Race, then a replacement will be available at
the Event Solutions desk for a fee of £20. If the timing chip is lost during your ride, your time will
not be recorded and you will appear in the results as a Did Not Finish (DNF). The consequence of
a DNF is that you will not receive a finish time within the results.
COLOUR NUMBER STICKERS
The long sticker is to be put on your seat post. We want you to have the best snaps of your
amazing experience at ToC, so the small number sticker is for the front on your helmet. This
allows our photographers to put all the photos together of you, rather than you having to trawl
through the hundreds of thousands of images taken over the weekend’s events.
START TIMES AND WHERE TO GO
The Event HQ is open from 8:00am and we’ve made sure there’s got lots going on in the lead up
to the UCI Chrono start time of 10:00am.
Within the Chrono, riders are set off every 20 seconds. The start sheet, along with your specific
start time will be available on the website 2 weeks before the event.
We make a big thing of the Chrono start, with a Chrono start ramp, countdown clock and
commentary as you’re set off. There’s a warm-up area next to the Chrono start area, so arrive 20
minutes before your start time and get ready for your ride on one of the turbos available. Your
rider number will be called when it’s time to make your way to the start ramp.
There will be Chrono starters available should you wish to be held on the top of the ramp to
start. This is optional so if you would prefer not to be held, please let the team know.
CHRONO RIDER MANUAL 2019 PAGE 10

and the chance to chill and soak in the atmosphere before jumping on the bike to enjoy a
morning with the family.

The Event HQ is open from 8am and we’ve made sure we’ve got lots going on on throughout the
weekend.
The Chrono is not seeded but split into Masters age groups. Start times will be announced, along

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW
MEDICAL
We have a huge Medical Team covering the whole of the ToC event. There will be Medical cover
available on the route and at the Event HQ.
All riders MUST complete the Medical Data Sheet on the back of the rider number, even if you
are unaware of any medical conditions you may have. As well as this, please register any medical
information on the ToC Medical Register, which can be found at HERE.
If you require medical treatment at any point throughout the event, make yourself known to a
Marshall or Steward where possible, or you can always make your way to our Medical Point at
the Event HQ. If you’re unable to do this, call the Medical contact number, which can be found on
the reverse of your rider number.
UCI TIME TRIAL BIKE SPECIFICATION
The UCI has a specification for Time Trial bikes; this specification can be found on the UCI
website; visit www.uci.ch.
The Tour of Cambridgeshire shall not be testing against the UCI specification at the event. Riders
may use any TT or standard road bike but it is the rider’s responsibility to ensure their bike is
road worthy. Golazo Cycling Ltd take no responsibility or liability for an un-roadworthy bike.
WARM UP AREA
The Chrono Warm Up area is located next to the Start Ramp. Riders will be checked in and
mounted onto turbo trainers by mechanics. Access to the Warm Up Area is permitted up to 20
minutes before a rider’s start time.
A bag drop will be available for riders and will be operated for a nominal fee.
CHRONO RIDER MANUAL 2019 PAGE 13
MINIMUM AGE
The minimum age of a rider taking part in the UCI Chrono is 16 years. Rider participation age in
the Chrono is age as per 31st December in the year of the event.
Please note that the minimum age for qualification to the UCI GF World Championships is 19
years as per 31st December in the year of the event.
ROUTE HAZARDS
There are very few hazards on the Chrono Route.
The key hazards are:
• Possibility of slipping on the start ramp, particularly if the weather is wet and tyres have
not dried off in the Chrono Holding area.
• Oncoming traffic on Bullock Road, Elton Road and within the Event HQ. Always stay on the
left hand side of the road, except if overtaking, look up and watch where you are going at
all times.
Whilst Golazo endeavours to ensure that the route is in the best possible shape for the event, the
respective roads are owned and maintained by the local authority and respective private owners.
As you can imagine with a route this long some potholes and road degradation can be
experienced through the route. The roads are safe to ride as stipulated by those owning these
roads. You will need to be vigilant and ride with respect to the circumstances that present
themselves within the race.
SAFETY
• It is obligatory that riders wear a regulation safety helmet for the CHRONO. Riders
compete at their own risk and have signed a disclaimer to that effect.
• Competitors should note that on some sections of the Chrono route there will be riders
on both sides of the road. Be careful when overtaking, watch for oncoming riders on the
opposite side of the road.
• Police motorbikes will be riding the route from time to time to support road security.
Please maintain personal awareness and do not impede them or try to follow them.
• Always stay to the left hand side of the road unless overtaking, do not ride in a group or
take advantage by sitting close behind another rider. Always look up and be aware of your
surroundings, especially if you change the line that you are riding as you may be about to
be overtaken!
• Beware of any public vehicles (cars, lorries, motorbikes or farm vehicles) under NEG
escort, which are on the route.
• Be aware that a determined breach of the road closure order by a member of the public is
a possible hazard which, despite the best efforts of the organisers, is impossible to
CHRONO RIDER MANUAL 2019 PAGE 14
prevent. Any driver responsible for such a breach will face criminal prosecution. Please be
attentive and if necessary take evasive action.
• The use and attachment of any sort of filming equipment (ie. GoPro) to helmet, body or
bike is strictly prohibited and competitors will be stopped from starting unless items are
removed.
• Please ride with your head up and look at the road ahead at all times.
PHOTOGRAPHY
All photography is provided by a highly regarded team from Sportograf, Germany. They will have
photographers located around the event.
Make sure you smile for the camera!!
BAG DROP
Instead of having to walk all the way back to your car to ensure your bag is safe, why not take
advantage of our secure Bag Drop. All you need is your belongings that you wish to leave with the
Bag Drop Team and make your way to the designated area within the Event HQ.
The Bag Drop facility is provided and managed by a local charity. All fees taken for the Bag Drop
facility is donated to charity.
CRITICAL HOUSE KEEPING
We apply a strong environmental policy to our events; we strive to leave all local communities as
we found them and litter free. If we don’t respect this position we will not be welcomed back in
future years, which means there will be no more Tour of Cambridgeshire.
PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE when using the event facilities and also while you’re out taking part in
the event, specifically in relation to:
1. Waste / litter MUST BE placed in a waste bins provided. These can be found all around the
Eventt HQ, so make sure you keep that litter safe until you arrive at one of these destinations.
2. Damage to the grounds either within the buildings or in the car park area.
- Organisers reserve the right to apply a fine for causing damage above and beyond reasonable
wear and tear. The particular concern here is in the event of wet ground and the need to use
some of the grass parking areas.
If you find that your vehicle gets stuck due to wet grounds, please inform the car-park operators
who will organise removal, rather than you causing damage to the grounds.
CHRONO RIDER MANUAL 2019 PAGE 15
RIDER INSURANCE
We don’t provide any rider insurance but we do highly recommend that you are covered when
taking part in ToC.
CROSSING THE FINISH LINE
Crossing that finish line is something to cheer about. It’s time to be proud of yourself and also the
rest of your family.
Make sure you keep your eyes on the prize, be aware of other riders around you and remember
to soak up the finish line atmosphere. You’ve done it!
Huge congratulations to you….
As soon as you have your medal, make your way round to pick up your cold beer,
courtesy of our sponsors Erdinger Alkoholfrei.
Now you’ve finished, it’s time to relax and have a chin wag with your pals – compare
your experiences over a drink and a bite to eat with the Event HQ facilities!
As soon as you’ve completed your race, you’ll be desperate to find out what time you
completed the route in. Ensure you download the ToC app before you head out and
you’ll be the first to know your time. Time will also be uploaded to the website.
All podium places and qualifiers will be announced at the Results Area. If you have won
a place on the podium, make your way to the podium area in your cycling attire and
wait for your special moment.
