One characteristic of those who are poor in spirit is their ability to ask for help; they know when others can provide what they lack. Today’s readings encourage us to practice poverty in spirit by asking God for what we need. What could be more natural than to ask God for good things? God is, after all, the inventor of goodness and the giver of all good things. Asking God for help puts us in conversation with God. These conversations take many forms. The reading from Genesis shows Abraham bantering with God like a skilled negotiator, while Saint Paul’s letter to the Colossians praises God for answering us even when we don’t deserve it. In Saint Luke’s Gospel, Jesus not only gives us words touseinour conversations with God (the Our Father), but also promises that God always listens to our prayers. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Dear Parishioners,

Last weekend was certainly a difficult one due to the excessive heat and humidity and I

support all those who stayed home rather than risk their health.

I spoke at the end of each mass bidding farewell to Deacon Peter Okajima. The nine

weeks of his assignment here passed very quickly and his presence in the rectory

was a blessing.

Many of you have commented on the quality of his homilies and he was able to

exercise his diaconate at wakes, baptisms, funerals and both daily and Sunday masses.

The entire parish community of Our Lady of Angels sends him back to Pope St. John

XXIII Seminary in Weston, Massachusetts with our love and prayers as he and his

classmates prepare for their last year prior to priestly ordination.

The summer Mission Collection amounted to $42.00 and some gave checks directly to

the Society of the Propagation of the Faith that would not be reflected in the parish

collection. Thank you for your generosity to the ministry of the Sisters of St. Gemma Galgani

in Tanzania, East Africa. Blessings will come back to us.

Let’s pray for each other,

Msgr. Kevin B. Noone

OPEN WIDE OUR HEARTS

In November 2018 the Catholic bishops of the United States released a Pastoral Letter Against Racism called, Open Wide Our Hearts. The letter is a powerful invitation for all the people of God to “face courageously the vice of racism,...reach out generously to the victims of this evil, to assist the conversion needed in those who still harbor racism, and to begin to change policies and structures that allow racism to persist.” At usccb.org/racism, you can read the entire letter, get new resources and find ideas for how we can respond.

SERVICIOS A LA COMUNIDAD

¡BIENVENIDOS A NUESTRA COMUNIDAD!

-Papa Francisco
