From the Desk of Father Jonathan

Below you will find a short and simple note from Fr. Urbano Rodrigues, who served our parish faith-fully for nearly five years. Generally speaking, assis-tants to the pastor (parochial vicars) stay just three years, so we were blessed to have Fr. Urbano with us for an extended period. Although I wanted to have a parish goodbye party for Fr. Urbano, in his usual discreet and humble manner, he would not have it. We thank God that his new parish, St. Lucy's, is not far from us and he has promised me that he won't be a stranger here in Belmont.

Many of you have already met our new Parochial Vicar, Fr. Israel. Please continue to introduce your-self to him and help him get acquainted with our wonderful neighborhood and parish. Together with our two priests in residence, Fr. Pio and Fr. Henry, and our three marvelous sisters, Sr. Edna, Sr. Jasmin, and Sr. Martina, we have a wonderful staff in our rectory and convent.

By the way, would you join me in praying for Sr. Jasmin's mother who is very sick? Sr. Jasmin has gone home to the Philippines for several weeks to be with her mom in this difficult time.

God bless, Father Jonathan

THANK YOU FROM FR URBANO

As I move now to another parish, I wish to express my deep gratitude to all the parishioners for their love, care and concern. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to be part of this wonderful parish. My special thanks to Fr. Eric Rapaglia and Fr. Jonathan Morris and all the parish staff. May God bless you and your family!

GOD’S WAYS In the stream of readings during this portion of Ordinary Time one week’s texts can often appear to pick up exactly where the previous week’s concluded. The sentiments expressed in today’s first reading seem to be a direct reaction to the Gospel passage we heard last week. In that Gospel, the landowner pays the same wages to his workers whether they worked for a full day or for only a few minutes. Today Ezekiel gives us the lament, “The Lord’s way is not fair!”(Ezekiel 18:25). These Sundays in Ordinary Time offer us a glimpse into the ways of the Lord. We see how God’s way has the tendency to turn the accepted conventions of the day upside down. Those who always expected that their way to heaven was guaranteed are disappointed. Those who thought they never had a chance are given that chance. Today offers us another opportunity to discover the abundance of God’s mercy and love.

OCTOBER MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY

& RESPECT LIFE MONTH

Let’s pray our Rosary for a greater

Respect for Life, at all stages, at all ages
