The word today is a clear reminder for us of God’s tender compassion and inexhaustible mercy. Luke 15 is referred to as the chapter of mercy relating the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin and the lost son, opening the way for the forgiving Father. Paul’s gratitude for the mercy God has shown him, can be our prayer as well. Pope Francis constantly reminds us, that we who have known mercy are better able to extend mercy to others. Today, September 11 th can be a moment of mercy and forgiveness for all the hurts we have experienced. Today, can be a moment of gospel forgiveness to be offered to others. CHURCH OF ST. Page 3: CHURCH OF S . D · Palmisano, Holly Boyd, Mary Conlon, Jillian ... McManus, Daniel Mount, Nick Ljuljana, Beth Vanderhoot, Jim Hodgkiss, Patricia Blumenstock, William Struyf,

Message from Fr. Bill This past week, the Pastoral Council had its first meeting. It was a most positive start as we talked about the overall picture of the parish and topics from the parish self-study (from February, at the start of the Faith in the Future initiative). I asked the members to consider a few items as we move forward, both short range and long range projects. The members of the council are Darcy Garruzzo, Connie Bruce, Linda Wynd, Robert Butler, Kate and Mark Galdieri, and Elizabeth Martin and Roger Estafanos. I am thankful for their willingness to serve the parish in this ca-pacity. This week is the annual convocation for the priests of the Diocese of Trenton. This yearly gathering will begin on Tuesday afternoon and conclude Thursday afternoon. I will keep all parishioners in prayer on Wednesday and Thursday, especially during Masses with the Bishop. (Please realize there will be no daily Mass on Wednesday or Thursday.) Last year, at the convocation, the Faith in the Future planning initiative was introduced to the priests of the diocese. This year, there is a “preached retreat”-type of convocation with a presenter who will lead with a theme: Priests with the Heart of Jesus. I ask that you please pray for the priests of the diocese during this week, for our con-tinued conversion and the grace from God to make the con-vocation theme a reality. As we get ready for the presentation of the play “Therese: The Story of a Soul”, I want to encourage all the families of the parish to bring their children to the perfor-mance, particularly those of middle school age who will be Confirmed in the next few years and are looking at the saints in a new way as young adults. This experience of Catholic Culture and the Arts, for this Jubilee Year of Mer-cy, was scheduled with young people in mind! So save the date, Wednesday the 21st at 7:00 pm. It will inspire you and encourage all in your faith. I saw the performance last year at another parish and loved it (one of my master’s thesis is on St. Therese and I thought it was a great treatment of her life and spirituality). I am hoping that this play will be a great success and a real celebration of God’s Mercy in the life of one saint. I ask if there are a few men that can help with set up or take down of the set, please contact me this week (732-223-0287 ext. 308). Set up will start about 1:00 pm on Wednesday the 21st and take-down will be right after the performance. Please give a call if you can help.

ST. DENIS CHURCH SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that the shepherd rejoices when he finds one lost sheep. The story tells us that nothing and no one is insignificant to God who is compassionate and loving to all. Is there a neighbor or friend of yours who is in temporary need because of a loss of a job or an illness? Please leave a message for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul…we want to help! The St. Denis Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul serves everyone living in the parish neighborhood, whether they are parishioners or not, since all are joined together through the realities of cre-ation and redemption. Our Conference recognizes our responsibility toward all our neighbors as brothers and sisters in Christ. If you need assistance or know of someone, or a family that may need assistance, please call our hotline:732-223-1383. Electronic Donations are now available on the St. Denis Church website by click-ing the St. Vincent de Paul Society button link. Dona-tion envelopes are also available on the shopping cart in the church gathering space. Our next general meeting will be Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 7:00 pm in Msgr. O'Connor Hall. The St. Denis Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has its general meetings at 7:00 pm, the first and third Tuesdays of every month. All are wel-come to attend.

Recovery Corner The First Step in recovery from addiction is to admit there’s a problem-addiction is EVERYWHERE and nothing to be ashamed about. People all around us every day are suffering and we need to help one another, just as we would if someone needed clothes or shelter, money or sup-port. Addiction is no different. On Monday nights at 7:00 pm there is a Nar-Anon meeting de-signed for people who are affected by someone else's drug ad-diction. This is an anonymous program. Take one hour to get the support and relief you need. The meeting is in the lower level of St. Denis Church. On Thursdays at 10:00 am and 7:00 pm there is a Recovery Bi-ble Study where anyone can come and spend one hour learning about recovery from addiction through Christ-centered scrip-ture. Anyone is welcome anytime throughout the year. Books are provided. Please continue to pray for all those suffering from addiction! Thank you! The Saint Denis Recovery Ministry Facebook page is up and running. Check it out for events, programs, classes, resources, and supportive information. Email: [email protected] or call Fr. Bill at the rectory.
