First Reading: Wisdom 18:6-9 In this excerpt, the Israelites are reminded that they
were warned before God sent an angel to slay the
first born of the Egyptians. God called on them to
have courage, and then rewarded them by punish-
ing their enemies and leading them from captivity. Second Reading: Hebrews 11:1-2, 8-19 Faith is described as true belief even toward things
we cannot see. Abram's faith in God was so deep
that he wandered through a foreign land, convinced
God's promise of a homeland was sincere. God
honored his promise to give Abram many descend-
ants, and was proud of the deep faith Abram and his
people possessed. Gospel: Luke 12:32-48 Jesus encourages us to be prepared for his return at
all times, for he will come when we least expect
him. He tells of a master who entrusts his home to
his servants, and fully expects them to be awaiting
his return. In the same manner, Jesus can arrive at
any moment and expects us to be prepared for his
return.
Religious Education

Families new to the area who wish to register for religious education classes should contact the of-fice at [email protected] or by phone at 232-4648.
Proper Dress in Church During the Summer
In Matthew’s Gospel (22:1-14), Christ tells the Apostles the parable of the king, who hosted a wedding feast. When the king came to meet his guests, he found one who was not dressed proper-ly, that is, he was not wearing a wedding garment. The king had the man removed from the feast be-cause, as he said, “Many are called but few are chosen.”
Each week we are invited to a great feast by a King. He is not an earthly King, but rather, the King of the Universe, the King of Time and Eterni-ty—God Himself. The feast is not an earthly feast of any sort—it is the Eucharist, the center of our Catholic faith. Yet many attend this greatest of feasts before our King in shorts, tee shirts, halter tops, cut offs, flip flops, etc. Would we dress this way for a dinner with the President?
For one hour each week let us dress with the respect due our King and His feast.
Women of St. Mary’s are welcome to join us for our next scripture study:

Discovering our Dignity Two groups will be meeting, one in the mornings and one in the evenings, beginning September 28th & 29th, respectively. Please join the session that works best for your schedule.
Wednesday session at 10:00 am Thursday session at 7:00 pm
Discovering our Dignity shows us women in the Bible struggled with many of the same things that we find hard today. Relationships characterized by comparison and competition, habits leading to places of frustration and discouragement, wonder-ing what is the point of it all... these challenges are nothing new.
Through their stories recorded in Scripture, we learn where we go for true contentment and fulfill-ment.
If you have any questions, please email Maura at [email protected], or call 914-232-1872.

ARE YOU REGISTERED? From time to time people come to the Rectory because they have the honor of being asked to be a Godparent for a Baptism or a Sponsor for a Confirmation and they need a document from us. This document states that they are members in good standing of this parish. The only way we can comply with this request is if the individual is indeed, a registered member of the parish who worships here on a regular basis. Please note that although you may be registered with the Reli-gious Education Office or may have made all your sacraments at St. Marys, this does not automatical-ly mean that you are registered at the Rectory! If you would like to become a fully registered mem-ber or check to see if you are registered, please stop by or call the Rectory. If you are new to the parish, Fr. Duff would like to greet you personally!

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.
In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
