Scripture Corner:
TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIMEFirst Reading: Amos 6:1a, 4-7 Amos denounces the selfish attitude of those who surround themselves with luxuries with no concern for others. He goes on to warn that because these people lacked interest in the state of their society, they would be the first to be exiled.
Second Reading: 1 Timothy 6:11-16Paul tells Timothy to seek integrity, faith and love. Paul urges him to attain everlasting life by main-taining strong faith in Jesus and in God until Jesus returns.
Gospel: Luke 16:19-31Jesus tells of a rich man who feasted daily, while a beggar named Lazarus went hungry outside his gates. When both men died, Lazarus was taken to Abraham, but the rich man was in torment. When he begged for mercy, Abraham reminded him that Lazarus had lived in torment, while the rich man lived in selfish luxury. The man then asked if Laz-arus could be sent to his brothers to warn them. But Abraham said if they had not heeded Moses or the prophets, they would ignore even the warning of one risen from the dead.

Discovering our Dignity
Two groups will be meeting, one in the mornings and one in the evenings, beginning September 28th & 29th, respectively. Please join the session that works best for your schedule.
Wednesday session at 10:00 am Thursday session at 7:00 pm
Discovering our Dignity shows us women in the Bi-ble struggled with many of the same things that we find hard today. Relationships characterized by comparison and competition, habits leading to plac-es of frustration and discouragement, wondering what is the point of it all... these challenges are nothing new.
Through their stories recorded in Scripture, we learn where we go for true contentment and fulfill-ment.

Each year in the US, 1,300,000 babies die at the hands of abortionists – more than 59 million since 1973. Hundreds of Westchester and Putnam resi-dents will again be witnessing against this tragedy by participating in the 29th Annual National Life Chain for an end to abortion. Led by pastors and community leaders, participants will stand, holding signs (available along the route) and quietly pray for an end to abortion. The Life Chain is a legal, peaceful and prayerful witness that abortion is mor-ally wrong. Our local Life Chain will again be held in Mt. Kisco on Main Street, between the Northern Westchester Hospital and Moger Avenue, 2-3:30pm (rain or shine). Please show your support for life by being a link in the chain and bringing along your family and friends! “All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men (and women) do nothing” (Edmund Burke). “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.
In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
