SACRAMENTS BAPTISMS Baptism are celebrated once a month on a Sunday after the 12:30 pm Mass in Spanish and 2:00 pm in English. The dates for the Baptism of children and for the Pre-Baptismal instruction of parents should be arranged in the rectory 1 MONTH IN ADVANCE. In addition to English, and Spanish this Sacrament may also be in Italian.

WEDDINGS/ MATRIMONIO Pre–marital instruction is a requirement for all engaged couples. Consequently, arrangements for weddings should be made at least SIX MONTHS in advance.

HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

“I came to you in weakness and fear and much trembling, and my message and my proclamation were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of Spirit and power, so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God….You are the salt of the earth…you are the light of the world.’” We are so accustomed to read the letters of St. Paul, or travel with him on his journeys, to consider this itinerant preacher as one who had it all together. As we listen to him today, he placed his trust on the Lord, the Spirit and God’s good grace or power. Although he denies the use of persuasive speech, our Christian lives are molded and formed by his great teaching. As I listen to the homily at mass, may I ask that that same Sprit and power be on the lips and in the heart of the preacher, to assist me in my growth as a disciple. May the image of salt and light, strengthen and guide me as the words and Spirit move my heart.

Se metto un grosso cucchiaio di sale nella zuppa, sarà immangiabile. Ce ne vuole solo un pizzico, che basta ad insaporirla. O, senza utilizzare un’immagine, anche se non ci sono che pochi uomini a sopportare con buon umore, bontà e indulgenza le debolezze del loro prossimo (e le loro, in più!), a non essere solo preoccupati di imporsi, di perseguire i propri scopi e i propri interessi, questo pugno di uomini ha la possibilità di cambiare il proprio ambiente, contribuendo a che il nostro mondo resti umano. Il nostro mondo sarebbe povero, inumano e freddo se non ci fossero uomini che danno prova di questa cordialità e di questa generosità spontanee. Essere il sale della terra: siamo abbastanza fiduciosi per credere al carattere contagioso della bontà? O ci accontentiamo di temere il potere contagioso del male? Un pizzico di sale basta a dare gusto a tutto un piatto. Ognuno di noi, anche se si sente isolato, ha la fortuna di poter cambiare il clima che lo circonda! Gesù ci crede capaci: voi siete il sale della terra, voi siete la luce del mondo! Lo siamo? ).

The Cardinal’s Appeal provides parishes that are most in need with the resources they require to minister to all the faithful. Most recently, the Cardinal’s Appeal extended assistance to 33 parishes for operational expenses, which included updated HVAC equipment, reinforced structures, as well as beautiful, safe spaces in which to gather for fellowship and prayer.

SU PALABRA HOY Por el Rev. William J. Reilly

“Y me presenté ante ustedes débil, tímido y tembloroso. Y mi palabra y mi predicación no tuvieron nada de los persuasivos discursos de la sabiduría, sino que fueron una demostración del Espíritu y del poder para que vuestra fe se fundase, no en sabiduría de hombres, sino en el poder de Dios… Ustedes son la sal de la tierra… ustedes son la luz del mundo."

Estamos acostumbrados a leer las cartas de San Pablo, a acompañarlo en sus viajes, a considerarlo como predicador hábil y seguro de sí mismo. Al escucharlo hoy, entendemos que puso su fe en el Señor, en el Espíritu, y en el poder y gracia de Dios. A pesar de negar el uso de discursos persuasivos, nuestras vidas cristianas están moldeadas y formadas por esta gran enseñanza. Al escuchar la de la misa, puedo pedir al mismo Espíritu homilía y poder estén en los labios y corazón del pastor, para que pueda yo crecer como discípulo.

Que las imágenes de sal y luz me fortalezcan y guíen y que las palabras y el Espíritu toquen mi corazón.
