Theme of the Month: Celebration of Life

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!

This month as we celebrate Thanksgiving for Harvest, the theme chosen is 'Celebration of Life'. Life to each of us is an amazing gift of God. We need to be thankful, and more so, respect all life, be it human or otherwise. By this I mean all living creatures, more specially the physically, mentally, and differently challenged people. We are so much encouraged by the words of the Psalmist in Psalm 139, which proclaims the authorship of God in creating each one of us, and also creating each of us in a wonderful and unique fashion.

We as people of God are in the process of understanding God in our own perspective, and in and through the experiences that we go through each day in our lives. These experiences for us as Christians have to be reflected upon in the light of the Bible and its teachings. Our response and our way of life has to be designed in accordance and in the light and guidance of the scripture, which is what eventually as the followers of Christ we are expected to do – to be doers of the Word and not only hearers.

We are to learn to be concerned and sensitive to the people and their challenges, and towards other creation as well. As we learn and experience God, we are also to open ourselves for the realities of others.

May we all be guided by the Sovereign God to enjoy the peace and justice here in this world and prepare ourselves for the Kingdom of God to be established.

REMEMBER AND BE THANKFUL FOR HIS BOUNTEOUS MERCY

Let us not only be traditional - of course we have to be 'thankfully traditional!' Let us continue to look at our great sanctuary with awe and wonder, which has been standing tall as a symbol of Peace and Salvation to all around, and as a Gift of recognition and thankfulness over the centuries. This gratitude involves memory of the past, awareness of the present, and trust in our Saviour for the future. This must predominantly be our response as we celebrate the traditional Annual Thanksgiving Festival of our church, especially in the wake of our Sesquicentennary Celebrations.

Let this celebration of joy together as a congregation be meaningful to us. Let us fix our hearts and thoughts solely and primarily on the Kingdom of God alone to accomplish His Mission. May we also set this as our goal for the next 50 years, at the end of which, triumphantly celebrate the Bicentenary of our Sanctuary, St. Andrew's Church!

While this is the annual opportunity for us to say, 'Thank you God', let us also make it a point to say 'thanks' to all the people in and around us who have made a subtle difference in our lives and in the life of our congregation.

May God bless us profusely with His abundant grace as we celebrate the Annual Thanksgiving yet again, and as we look forward to the Sesquicentennary Celebrations, may we really and sincerely 'in everything give HIM thanks'. Stanley R. Chellappa Editor

Mission Month - Tubagere

As part of our Mission Month Celebrations, a group of our congregation members visited Tubagere on 15-9-2013 and participated in their Sunday Worship Service. About 40 members joined this group consisting of representatives from Sunday School, Youth Fellowship, Women's Fellowship, members of the Mission and Evangelism Committee, and others.

The Worship Service started at 10am and went on till 12 noon. Believers from all the three worshipping groups assembled at Tubagere. We had a wonderful day worshipping along with our Mission Field congregation. For about an hour, we had Praise and Worship in which everyone participated so enthusiastically. Then we prayed and brought our supplications to God. Finally, our Presbyter Rev. Sanjay Samuel shared the word of God in a simple and interactive mode so that they could understand well.

After the service, the visiting team interacted with the Tubagere Mission Congregation members. Our Sunday School children distributed sweets to the mission field Sunday School children. They in turn honored the visiting team by offering roses.

It was a wonderful and a joyous occasion for all of us.Team - Mission and Evangalism

We Welcome the following New Members into our St. Andrew’s family

The Serenata Chorale, the Choir of St Joseph's College of Commerce performed a concert in our church on Sunday, September 22, at the evening service. The fifty-member Choir was conducted by Mr. Sudhakar John Doraiswamy and accompanied by Ms. Priya Fernandez on the Piano. The performance comprising church, classical and contemporary music, negro spirituals and a piano solo, was indeed a musical treat and widely appreciated. Our thanks go to Mr. Sudhakar John Doraiswamy and the St Joseph's College of Commerce for making this concert possible.
