Respect Life

Spiritual Adoption Signup is today Everyone loves the beauty and innocence of a baby. As an expression of that love, St. John’s is

offering you the opportunity to “spiritually adopt” a baby who is newly conceived this month. Not all babies make it to birth. Many parents tragically experience the loss of a child to miscarriage or

premature birth. And more than 3,000 babies lose their lives to abortion each day. These are the babies you are being asked to “adopt” simply by praying for him or her each day. You may “adopt” a baby

individually or as a family by signing up this weekend. You may name the baby for whom you will be praying, which will remind you that, although you may never meet the baby in this life, you are praying

for a specific baby who needs your prayers. We are asking you to start praying on the Feast of the Annunciation which is this Wed., March 25. The baby will be born on the Feast of the Holy Innocents, December 28th. The following prayer is said each day – “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much.

I beg you to spare the life of the unborn child that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.” – Bishop Fulton J. Sheen

Prayer for our Troops Almighty God and Father, hold our servicemen and women in

your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us

in our time and need. We ask this in the name of Jesus,

Our Lord and Savior. Amen.

St. Francis de Sales’ rules for fasting:

1. “The first condition is that we must fast with our whole heart, that is to say, willingly, wholeheartedly, universally and entirely. (St. Bernard says that as it is not our mouth alone which has sinned, but also all our other senses. For if we have offended God through the eyes, through the ears, through the tongue, and through our other senses, why should we not make them fast as well?”

2. “The second condition is never to fast through vanity but always through humility. If our first is not performed with humility, it will not be pleasing to God. To fast through vanity is to fast through self-will….and what does it mean to fast through self-will? It is to fast as one wishes and not as others wish; to fast in the manner which pleases us, and not as we are ordered or counseled.”

3. “The third condition necessary for fasting well is to look to God and to do everything to please him. Withdrawing within ourselves in imitation of a great saint, St. Gregory the Great, who withdrew into a secret and out-of-the-way place where he remained for some time without anyone knowing where he was, being content that the Lord and his angels knew it.”

Saint Michael, the Archangel, Please guide and protect our Police Officers, Firefighters, Emergency

Personnel and First Responders

It is strongly suggested that those who receive Holy Communion on the tongue to please receive

the Eucharist in the hand until the Corona Virus health hazard is over.

Thank you in advance.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT – March 22, 2020

A Note from Fr. Caruso …

“As the deer longs for running waters, so my soul longs for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I go

and behold the face of God?” Psalm 42: 1-2 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Psalm 42 speaks to the emptiness we are all experiencing at this time; not being able to come together and offer our worship and praise to Almighty God. Be assured that God has not abandoned us. We are truly in the desert this Lenten season. This is an opportunity for families to gather together and pray at home; for families to speak about what is truly important in our lives. All too often we all go our own ways. Now, we have the opportunity, to be together as a family unit and discuss what we are experiencing. Maybe God is using this time to help us recognize our need and dependence on the Lord. Brothers and Sisters do not despair. We, the Body of Christ, are united through our Baptism and our prayer with one another and Jesus Christ. Hold firm to the faith. Know that our Savior, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, is with us.

God Bless You All,

Fr. Philip J. Caruso Pastor

Year A Gospel Today Fourth Sunday of Lent / John 9:1-41 In today’s gospel, Jesus and His disciples came upon a man who had been blind since birth. As Jesus smeared clay into the man’s eyes, He lent His healing powers to the blind man, and sent him to the Pool of Siloam to wash. When the man returned, his eyes were able to see, but more importantly his heart was open to believe in Jesus. Not as a sinner, as many believed, but truly the Son of God.
