From Fr. John
Congratulations to our 2nd graders who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation last Saturday for the first time. This class of 85 children will receive their First Communion in late April and early May. I thank their parents for making this important commitment to us and to their children. Also, thanks to Mrs. Kogler and her wonderful crew of dedicated catechists for getting our children ready to receive the Sacraments. I was also happy to be with our 2nd graders on Sunday for their annual Mass and Breakfast. Their singing of the hymns at Mass was exceptional and for it we thank Mrs. Joan Rojas for all the practices with all the children from Religious Ed. God Bless.
********* Remember to join us for the Lenten Reflection Concert to be held next Sunday, March 18th at 5:00pm in the Church. As you know, the Choir is a very talented group of musicians and singers who graciously provide music at our Masses. Let us show our support for them while giving ourselves a prayerful break from our usual routines. Tickets are on sale after all the Masses and at the Office. Join us.
********** The next series of Bereavement Support Group Meetings will begin on Tuesday, April 17th at 7:30pm in the Rectory Conference Room. They will continue each Tuesday, April 24th, May 1st and 8th at 7:30pm. Please call me at Rectory Office to register. We encourage everyone who may be feeling overwhelmed by the loss of a loved one to join us. We have a fine group of facilitators who assist me in running the meetings.
May your week be filled with God’s amazing grace…… Fr. John

The Religious Education Program would like to thank Catholics in Real Life for hosting the Second-Grade Breakfast on Sunday, March 4. Our families were appreciative of their hospitality.
The 2017 tax contribution statements are available. Please call the Parish Office to request your copy, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You may also fax or e-mail us as well.
Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Jack Alongi, the 50/50 Maintenance Club Winner for the month of February. Thanks to all of you the amount of $177.00 was shared.
HELP THE KNIGHTS HELP THE FOOD PANTRY
For the Lenten season, the Knights will help collect canned goods for our Holy Spirit Food Pantry. If you can help, we are hoping you will be able to provide 40 cans of goods for the 40 days of Lent. Whatever you can provide will be greatly appreciated by those in need. Please bring your canned goods to Mass and place them in one of the receptacles at the Church entrances. Items needed by the Food Pantry include (not everything needs to be in a can): shelf stable milk, canned fruits and vegetables, hot and cold cereal, soup, tea, coffee, pasta and peanut butter. Please remember that state law prohibits us from distributing expired food.
Easter Spiritual Bouquet
As a spiritual gift, remember your loved ones during our Easter Masses. Easter Spiritual Bouquet intention envelopes will be available starting next weekend. Please fill out the intention envelope and return it with your stipend (offering) enclosed. You may place it in the collection basket or drop it
at the Parish Office. All Easter Masses will be offered for these intentions.
Religious Education Is your child entering first grade in September? Did you know that Religious Education starts in first grade and continues through eighth grade with students attending every year? Please call Elizabeth Kogler in the Religious Ed Office at 734-9243 to find out about registering your child for September 2018. Registration forms for families currently enrolled in the Program will be mailed at the end of April.

We have crossed the halfway point of the school year and the 100th day has been celebrated throughout our schools! March is dedicated to St. Joseph and HONESTY is the value of the month. Catholic schools represent one of the greatest education values today. We are currently accepting applications for the 2018-19 school year for new students entering grades PK3 through 8th. Financial assistance is available for qualified students. Visit ApplyCatholicSchoolsNY.org to submit an application today. Our next Touring Tuesday will begin held on March 14th, from 9-11am or by appointment. Touring Tuesdays are Open House events, designed to introduce prospective families to the life-long benefits and value of a Catholic education. Reservations are required and can be made online at CatholicSchoolsNY.org or by calling our bilingual phone line 646-794-2885. All Catholic schools in our region are participating. We look forward to welcoming you!

FASTING
Fast from hurting words and say kind words. Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude. Fast from anger and be filled with patience. Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope. Fast from worries and trust in God. Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity. Fast from pressures and be prayerful. Fast from bitterness and fill your heart with joy. Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others. Fast from grudges and be reconciled. Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS On days when the weather is inclement, please listen to WHUD 100.7 FM for announcements on cancellations. Cancellations are also posted on-line on the WHUD storm center. You can also check the outgoing message on the Religious Education voicemail. The Religious Ed phone number is (914) 734-9243. Generally, because Holy Spirit falls within the boundaries of the Lakeland Central School District, when Lakeland is closed or cancels afterschool activities, Religious Ed classes are cancelled.
Our Choice
Each day we have a choice of how we can live. We can waste time cursing the darkness or we can thank God for the light when we have it. We can focus on the ugliness in the world, or we can train our eyes to see and appreciate the beauty that is there instead.
