‘Today’ is the Day Malachi 3:19-20 Psalm 98:5-9

2 Thess 3:7-12 Luke 21:5-19

It is the age between our Lord’s first coming and His last. We live in the new world begun by His life, death, Resurrection and Ascension, by the sending of His Spirit upon the Church. But we await the day when He will come again in glory.

“Lo, the day is coming,” Malachi warns in today’s First Reading. The prophets taught Israel to look for the Day of the Lord, when He would gather the nations for judgment (see Zephaniah 3:8; Isaiah 3:9; 2 Peter 3:7).

Jesus anticipates this day in today’s Gospel. He cautions us not to be deceived by those claiming “the time has come.” Such deception is the background also for today’s Epistle (see 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3).

The signs Jesus gives His Apostles seem to already have come to pass in the New Testament. In Acts, the Epistles and Revelation, we read of famines and earthquakes, the Temple’s desolation. We read of persecutions - believers imprisoned and put to death, testifying to their faith with wisdom in the Spirit.

These “signs” then, show us the pattern for the Church’s life - both in the New Testament and today.

We too live in a world of nations and kingdoms at war. And we should take the Apostles as our “models,” as today’s Epistle counsels. Like them we must persevere in the face of unbelieving relatives and friends, and forces and authorities hostile to God.

As we do in today’s Psalm, we should sing His praises, joyfully proclaim His coming as Lord and King. The Day of the Lord is always a day that has already come and a day still yet to come. It is the “today” of our Liturgy.

The Apostles prayed maranatha - “O Lord come!” (see 1 Corinthians 16:22; Revelation 22:20). In the Eucharist He answers, coming again as the Lord of hosts and the Sun of Justice with its healing rays. It is a mighty sign - and a pledge of that Day to come. by Scott Hahn

Stand up for the Unborn!Did you know that a minor child in New Mexico can obtain an abortion without parental knowledge? Did you know that parents are held responsible for all medical procedures for that child? We will be collecting signatures for a petition on behalf of the Right to Life Committee of New Mexico next weekend, November 23 & 24, following each mass. Your information will only be shared with the Right to Life Committee of New Mexico and its Chapters. WE BELIEVE it is a parent’s right to be notified of an impending abortion. Please take the time to support this very worthy cause. Your support can literally save lives!

Memorial Mass !Memorial Mass for the dead, November 23rd at 10:30am This mass is for those who have died from our parish over the past year. The families have been invited to attend this Mass; wouldn't be nice if others from the parish were able to attend to show consolation and solidarity with our fellow parishioners who are still grieving the lost of their loved ones. Please attend if you can. There will be a luncheon for the families only following the Mass.

A Second Collection will be taken next weekend, Nov. 23/24.  This collection will be two-fold.  There is an envelope in your packet for Human Development.   You can also designate this collection to the Franciscan Friars by writing on the envelope "Friars" and making your check out to the Friars. If you have any questions concerning this collection call Gloria in the office, 771-8331.

Congratulations on the Baptism of Lucy Angeline Hale!

St. Camillus de Lellis - Patron Saint of the Sick!St. Camillus de Lellis was born at Bocchianico, Italy. He fought for the Venetians against the Turks, was addicted to gambling, and by 1574 was penniless in Naples. He became a Capuchin novice, but was unable to be professed because of a diseased leg he contracted while fighting the Turks. He devoted himself to caring for the sick, and became director of St. Giacomo Hospital in Rome. He received permission from his confessor (St. Philip Neri) to be ordained and decided, with two companions, to found his own congregation, the Ministers of the Sick (the Camellians), dedicated to the care of the sick. They ministered to the sick of Holy Ghost Hospital in Rome, enlarged their facilities in 1585, founded a new house in Naples in 1588, and attended the plague-stricken aboard ships in Rome's harbor and in Rome. In 1591, the Congregation was made into an order to serve the sick by Pope Gregory XIV, and in 1591 and 1605, Camillus sent members of his order to minister to wounded troops in Hungary and Croatia, the first field medical unit. Gravely ill for many years, he resigned as superior of the Order in 1607 and died in Rome on July 14, the year after he attended a General Chapter there. He was canonized in 1746, was declared patron of the sick, with St. John of God, by Pope Leo XIII, and patron of nurses and nursing groups by Pope Pius XI. His feast day is July 18th.

Church of the Incarnation Rio Rancho,

Congratulations to Louis Bernal and Mark Buie, members of the Church of the Incarna-tion, on taking their final step toward their call to Holy Orders! At the end of their first year of formation they were installed as Candidate’s, at the end of their second year they were installed to the office of Lector. Yesterday, November 16, 2013 they were installed to the office of Acolyte by Archbishop Michael J. Sheehan at San Felipe de Neri Church in Old Town. Louis and Mark God willing will be ordained to the permanent diaconate in June of 2014. Please remember to keep them and their families in your prayers as continue to follow God’s call.

Sts. Stephen, Lawrence and Francis of Assisi are patron saints of the diaconate community. St. Stephen, the protomartyr, was among the first deacons of the Church, martyred for his bold proclamation of the truth of Jesus Christ. St. Lawrence, who was martyred in the 3rd century, was a deacon in Rome known for his care and concern for the poor. St. Francis of Assisi, founder of all Franciscan orders, was an ordained deacon. We ask the intercession of these three saints to watch over all deacons of Holy Mother Church.

History  of  Knights  –  1900-1910

By  the  beginning  of  the  20th  century,  the  fledgling  Order  was

growing  dramatically.    Councils  had  been  chartered  throughout

the  United  States  and  Canada,  and  international  expansion

continued  to  Mexico  and  the  Philippines  in  1905,  along  with  Cu-

ba  and  Panama  in  1909.  The  first  Fourth  Degree  exemplification

took  place  on  Feb.  22,  1900,  in  New  York  City,  with  1,100

Knights  participating.    A  similar  event  took  place  in  Boston  in

May  with  another  750  candidates  taking  the  patriotic  degree.

The  Knights  also  turned  their  attention  to  college  campuses,  and

in  more  ways  than  one.    In  1904,  more  than  10,000  Knights  and

their  families  attended  ceremonies  at  The  Catholic  University  of

America  in  Washington,  D.C.,  in  which  the  Order  presented  the

school  with  a  grant  for  more  than  $55,000.    The  funds,  used  to

establish  a  K  of  C  chair  of  American  history,  began  a  long  histo-

ry  of  support  for  CUA.    In  addition,  students  at  the  University  of

Notre  Dame  in  Indiana  soon  organized  their  own  K  of  C

council.  Chartered  in  1910,  Notre  Dame  Council  1477  was  the

Order’s  first  college  council,  launching  a  subset  of  the  Knights

that  today  includes  councils  at  244  schools  worldwide.

The  Knights  of  Columbus  are  dedicated  to  the  service  of  their

church  and  its  pastor.    The  Knights  welcome  all  Catholic  men,  18
