This week for Thanksgiving, we travel a short road or a long distance to our families, our friends, our place of comfort and safety. We do this following months of bitter disagreement, conflict, fear, and worry. We do this heavy with worry about our spiritual home, our church. Many of us feel that someone has stolen our church. We want it back. Others feel that our country, our national life, is in tatters with con-flict and division. So for a few days of comfort, we run home for Thanksgiving. But giving thanks feels like a most difficult task this Thanks-giving. Giving thanks, being grateful, having gratitude in our heart is difficult to do when our lives have become so conflicted, scary. Still, that is exactly what we need. We need to fill our hearts with gratitude. That alone offers us hope to look at the future. Anyone can give thanks when the sun is shining, when the good times are rolling down. But how does one give thanks in bad times, times filled with disagreement, mistrust, harsh words? Only when one is connected to the source of living, breathing, walking, speaking in oneself, then I can begin to be grateful. Can I let go of my anger, my opinions, my worry and let God breathe within me? Here is the source of giving thanks of being grateful, or gratitude. Msgr. Frank Kelley

Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time

We are nearing the end of the Liturgical Year when the readings call us to think about the ‘end times’. Even though we don’t know when death will come, it is not a time to be comfortable and complacent because “of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Therefore, the time to be intentional about following Jesus is NOW, don’t wait.

How to make a gift to our Campaign

We ask you to decide to contribute Online with WE SHARE. The benefits for the parish include: no check pro-cessing fees; more consistent giving with recurring contri-butions; online donation summaries for record keeping; reaches a wider demographic of givers; and accommodates all special parish collections and missions. WeShare also makes donating simple and easy for our parishioners, while at the same time keeping the process safe and secure.

If you would like to enroll in Online Giving, please visit Sacred Heart WeShare. Copy this link to your browser to sign up. https://sh-roslindale.churchgiving.com . If you have any questions or concerns about the program or would like help setting up your account, please call our parish rectory at 617-325-3322

Today’s Liturgy

The readings for us today at Mass can be scary, troubling, and even hard to imagine or vis-ualize. They seem to be outside our thoughts, im-ages and sights that we experience every day. Yet they were intended to offer us hope and the ex-pectation of eternal life with God. With prayer and reflection, they can become that for us.

Our first reading has Daniel encouraging his people with a message to him from God pro-claiming an afterlife where God's faithful will shine like stars far removed from their present world where they have experienced so many hardships. There with God they will live forever.

In the Gospel passage, Jesus describes for his disciples his second coming. Using images to stir their imagination, Jesus conveys this trium-phant event of his coming again to give them confidence and urge them to greater vigilance, attentiveness, and perseverance. Jesus does not give them the time of this happening only that he will return in the future. He tells them heaven and earth will pass away but his words will not pass away. We proclaim this. truth each Sunday: “I believe in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come."

In simple terms, both readings offer us the hope as faithful disciples that we are destined for eternal life. As we celebrate Thanksgiving this Thursday, may we take a few moments and thank God for this gift of salvation as we pray in the Our Father, “Thy Kingdom Come.” Fr. Gene Sullivan

Sacred Heart School: Pledge for the Future As alumni of Sacred Heart School can attest, a quality Cath-olic school education is an invaluable tool for life. In today’s economy, the choice of a Catholic school education is a dif-ficult choice to make for many families because the cost has gone up significantly since the Sisters of St. Joseph made up the bulk of the faculty. In order to support this work as well as the technological demands of the 21st century, the school relies on donors, which includes parishioners. Thanks to the generosity of the community, a successful fundraising cam-paign was waged to celebrate the centennial of Sacred Heart School this past year. But this is only the beginning. In or-der to succeed, the school continues to rely on those who value a Catholic education. The Muldoon Family, alums of SHS, created a challenge for Sacred Heart’s 100th year. They have invited all to contribute to help match their family con-tribution. As we give thanks at this time of year, let us be grateful to the ministry of our Parish school.

Please consider Sacred Heart School when you are planning Your charitable contributions this year!
