Call to Worship Psalms 133 and 134, Book of Common Prayer (1979)

Leader: Oh, how good and pleasant it is, when the people live together in unity!

People: It is like fine oil upon the head that runs down upon the beard,

Leader: Upon the beard of Aaron, and runs down upon the collar of his robe.

People: It is like the dew of Hermon that falls upon the hills of Zion.

Leader: For there the Lord has ordained the blessing: life for evermore.

People: Behold now, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, you that stand by night in the house of the Lord.

Leader: Lift up your hands in the holy place and bless the Lord; the Lord who made heaven and earth bless you out of Zion.

People: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.

Church Wide Listening Sessions with Rev. Dr. Jim Matarazzo: Dur ing the sabbatical per iod at First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury, I will be conducting listening sessions after Sunday worship and coffee hour in the Chapel at 11:00 AM. All members and friends of the church are very welcome. This is an opportunity for you to express your views on the present state of the congregation and what you want to see for the future. It is meant to be a safe space for sharing. I will not be recording comments or associating names with what is said. I want to hear your honest views. You also have the option to meet with me one on one if you are not comfortable with the group process. Sunday Dates: September 15 September 29 October 6 October 13 October 27 November 3 There will also be an evening weekday session for those who cannot attend after church at a date and time to be announced. For the six sessions that follow Worship, "children's care" will be provided. Children's care means that both nursery care and activities for older children (Preschool, Elementary and Middle School) provided. Contact Leo Biocchi, Director of CE, 508-887-3007 with questions about children’s care.

Children & Youth Annual Volunteer Training: This basic safety & church school curriculum training is meant for anybody at church who is seriously interested in volunteering with children & youth. This would include but isn't limited to volunteering in Sunday School, Youth Group & Confirmation. Two options to attend: Tuesday, September 11th and Wednesday, September 17th at 7pm at church.

Deacons Deliberations: The deacons have thoughtfully and prayerfully met throughout 2019 and discussed our family worship service many times. After careful deliberation, the deacons have decided to modify the family services and try something different for the 2019-2020 school year. Instead of having family worship Sundays on the first Sunday of each month, it will be held on the fifth Sundays when many deacons are serving as ushers to assist the children. We will continue to dedicate the entire service to a younger style of worship, and the balcony will be closed so that we may all worship more closely with our neighbor. We hope that everyone will be pleased. The first Sunday of each month will be an adult centered worship service including communion. Of course you are always welcome to keep your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews with you on the first Sundays for Communion, or any Sunday, to share the entire worshipping experience with you. Wherever you are on life’s journey, you are always welcome here at FCCSM!

Youth Group: Today - Church picnic, no meeting - available YG can help with games.

September 15 - YG ice cream socal at 7:00pm, parents and youth are invited...medical release form needs to be completed. Parent CORI’s will also be available at the meeting.

Prayer of Dedication (unison) As we offer our treasure and hearts to you, O God, may they be used to pass on the promise of hope, of peace, of life, of community to all in need of your gifts and presence in their lives. Amen.

Closing Hymn “In the Garden”

I come to the garden alone, While the dew is still on the roses; And the voice I hear, falling on my ear, The Son of God discloses.

Refrain: And he walks with me, and he talks with me, And he tells me I am his own, And the joy we share as we tarry there, None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound of his voice Is so sweet the birds hush their singing; And the melody that he gave to me Within my heart is ringing. (Refrain)

I'd stay in the garden with him Tho' the night around me be falling; But he bids me go; thro' the voice of woe, His voice to me is calling. (Refrain)

Benediction

Response Communal Prayer Refrain

As We Come To Thee In Prayer

Now, dear Lord, as we pray, take our hearts and minds far away from the press of the world all around to Thy throne where grace doth abound. May our lives be transformed by Thy love, may our souls be refreshed from above. At this moment, let people everywhere join us now as we come to Thee in prayer.

Prayers of Petition and Thanksgiving Refrain

The Lord’s Prayer (unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
