Greetings to each and every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior! At long last the time has arrived for Rachel and me to finally make our way to Montgomery County and the beautiful city of Crawfordsville! We have been holding all of you in our hearts and prayers and we appreciate all those who have been lifting us up in prayer as well. It was such a blessing to receive your signed prayer pledge cards several weeks back and we have felt your prayers of love and encouragement. We are looking forward to getting to know you, serving together with you, and being a part of what God has in store for FUMC in the future! I have to say we are so excited about all the Lord has already been doing to bring together a ministry team at FUMC who is focused on continuing the good work being accomplished at church and in our community, and who is also committed to finding new ways to serve and reach others for Christ! In Matthew 9:35-38, it tells us “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, pro- claiming the Good News of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were har- assed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” It is our prayer that we all can have the heart of our Good Shepherd and open ourselves up to the Holy Spirit’s leading to GO and make disciples, who make disciples. I know that has been Pastor Gary’s desire during his time here and we so appreciate the ministry that he and Jenny have done in their time at FUMC (They have been such blessings to us during this transition!). So, I pray we will rededicate ourselves to this incredible mission, right here in Crawfordsville and our surrounding communities, to be workers for the Lord for the sake of those who have not heard the Good News. If you want an idea of what Rachel and I are all about, page 3 might give you a clearer picture. It is something we worked on together in order to refocus on evangelism and Jesus’ call to go into the harvest field that is ripe for harvest. God’s Blessings to you all and we will be seeing you soon! Words cannot fully express our appreciation for the many ways we have felt loved by all of you. The cards, gifts and well wishes have been so deeply felt. We leave Crawfordsville in the same way we started: with a heart full of hope. Keep the faith dear friends as a new chapter begins. Thanks for being partners in ministry. A special “thank you” to Randy & Donna Hendrickson for hosting our farewell cookout June 18 and for the work of the

Staff-Parish Relations Committee. Gary & Jenny Lewis

The SC Mission Team extends a big THANK YOU to our church family for their prayer and financial support of our trip. Donations from 29 families and the pro-ceeds of the pie auction funded about half of the $10,000 that we spent on materials for the new house. Together we have made a lasting difference in the lives of Henry

Ward, his daughter, and his grandson.

Come and meet Pastor Brian & Rachel

Campbell during a reception in the

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

“Let the little children come unto me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

Quite a while back, I was sitting in church looking around and inwardly wondering what was truly happening within the churches I was attending. Where were the families? Where was the joy? What happened to the personal testimonies of supernatural healing, joy, peace; the difference that God brings to the hearts, minds, body, and souls of people who put their trust in Him? As I sat there pondering these disturbing questions, a quick vision popped in my mind.

There was a man standing in front of the church, holding and drinking from a gigantic chal-ice. After he had taken a sip, with both hands firmly and reverently planted on the cup, he handed it to a woman; she too went through the same motions. This ritual happened four or five times, as the huge chalice became smaller and smaller with less power and mean-ing. The blood and body of Christ continued to shrink in meaning and scope. After five or six handoffs, the cup was no bigger than a coffee cup and a husband handed it to his wife. The wife handed it to her son, who in turn, handed it to his sister. The sister nonchalantly took the tiny cup between her pointer finger and thumb, quickly examined it, and loudly asked, “What’s this?”. The brother shrugged his shoulders and replied, “I don’t know, it’s something mom said was important”. After shrugging herself, the girl flicked the miniscule communion cup to the side and nonchalantly walked away.

Sometimes the truth comes to us in subtle ways, and sometimes the truth hurts so much that we can barely breathe. This was a barely breath moment and I began to silently cry. We are losing our children and young people. I was brave enough that Sunday morning to ask why. The answer shouldn’t have surprised me, but it did. We are losing our children and young people for many reasons; I will be discussing the reasons in the months to come, but one main reason is that the church has become irrelevant and meaningless to them; they feel disconnected. Part 1 of 3 ☺

With that being said, let’s get connected, become relevant, and live out truth, which brings the gospel of Jesus Christ to life!

Meet our Children’s Ministry/Preschool Director

As most of you are probably fully aware by now, I am Rachel Campbell, aka “The Pastor’s Wife.” My husband is Pastor Brian Campbell, aka “The Teacher’s Husband”. ☺ We have the incredible honor and privilege of moving to Crawfordsville and serving as your new Senior Pastor and Children’s Ministry/Preschool Director. We are the proud parents of three sons. Our oldest, Joshua, and his lovely wife Amber live in Avon and are expecting their first child. Yippee! Well, they would call the baby their third. Amber and Josh are proud parents of our adorable grand dogs Bentley and Brinkley. Our middle son Ross and our first grandbaby Evelyn (adore her!) live in Crown Point. Ross is the frustrated parent of two lively cats named Doris and Cheeto. Our youngest son Klarc, his beautiful wife Claire, and our 125 lb grand dog Nigel, the goldendoodle, and sweet Juno, the German Shepherd, live in Cicero. We look forward to becoming better acquainted!

Be ready for many exciting family and intergenerational activities to come! Our first Chil-dren's Ministry Launch will be held on Saturday, July 22nd from 9:00am-Noon. Everyone interested or presently serving in Children's Ministry is welcome!

GOD IS THE KEY TO OUR SUCCESS by Pastor Patty

Page 6 The Chimes

Most people believe the secret to success is a combination of optimism and persistence mixed with a dash of luck. If you look back in the old high school year book you may find a note indicating the person most likely to succeed in the class. Or we could say surely anyone can succeed if they try hard enough! Of course some people have more obstacles than others. As we go through life we find ourselves praying for God’s assistance when we are engaging in a church mission, praying for our children, grandchildren, a business transaction, or many times it is for guidance and wisdom in numerous leadership responsibilities, or as a student praying for a classmate, and the list of needs go on. Prayer is an acknowledgement that we are asking God to be in the lead – our key to success is God and we will follow. It is a statement that we must take to heart. What we need to understand is the concept: Where he leads me I will follow. We must put God in his proper position in our lives and that’s first. Matthew 6:33 (NIV) states, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” It means that we are to turn to God first for help, to fill our thoughts with his desires, to take his character for our pattern, and to serve and obey him in everything. It is important to remember that some of our objects, goals, and other desires all compete for priority. These priorities can quickly bump God out of first place if we forget to place him first in every area of our life. Let us keep God first in our families, in our Church, and with our friends. God is good – All the time.

DATED MATERIAL

After months of searching, praying, and trusting the Lord, we are so pleased to officially announce the hiring of Joshua Nobles as our Youth Director and Worship Leader. Joshua graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston Salem, NC with a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance. He has most recently worked as the Di-rector of Worship at Irving Park United Methodist Church in Greensbo-ro. He has experience in small group ministry, organizing and directing choirs and bands, and has performed as a pianist for several popular con-temporary Christian artists. He was the Youth and Worship Pastor at Peace Baptist Church, where he lead and expanded the youth and wor-ship ministry in his time there. He is newly married to his wife Anna Par-sons, a flight attendant for Republic Airlines. They will be moving to Indi-ana later this summer and plan to make their home in Avon. We are ex-cited to see what the Lord has planned with Joshua leading the way. His deep, grounded faith and his excitement and enthusiasm for God and His

people are evident. Welcome Joshua and AP!
