~~ Prayerr too Saintt Michaell ~~ St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
Dear Friends in Christ,
This Sunday we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King, which is the last Sunday of the Church’s liturgical year. In our Gospel from Saint John (18:33b-37), when Pontius Pilot asks Jesus if He is a King, the Lord responds: “My Kingdom does not belong to this world.” Jesus came into the world not to establish an earthy kingdom but the Kingdom of God. Saint Paul in the Letter to the Romans describes the Kingdom of God as one of “justice, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit” (14:17).
When we are baptized, we are anointed with the sacred Chrism in the sign of the cross on the crown of our heads to signify that in baptism we are configured to Christ who is our priest, prophet, and king. We receive this royal dignity in baptism. A priest is one who offers sacrifice to God. We are a priestly people because we are called to offer up all of the sacrifices and sufferings of our lives to God in union with Jesus. We are a prophetic people because we are to witness not to the kingdom of this world but to the Kingdom of God. We are a kingly people because Christ is to reign supreme in our lives.
This weekend, one of the seminarians, Max McGallagher, is speaking at all of the Masses on behalf of the Annual Appeal for Saint Charles Seminary. Max grew up in nearby Rising Sun, Maryland, and is a member of our parish. We also have another seminarian from Sacred Heart: Andrew Lane, who grew up in the parish, is a transitional deacon in his last year of formation at Saint Charles Seminary. Please keep both Max and Andrew in your prayers as they continue on their journey towards the priesthood.
Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary has been forming men for the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia since 1832. It was a great privilege and a sacred responsibility to have been a faculty member and administrator at the seminary for nine years of my priesthood. I know firsthand that the faculty of Saint Charles Seminary works hard to form men for the priesthood who are faithful, pastoral, and balanced men of prayer. The Annual Seminary Appeal is vital in making sure that this important work of the Church continues. Thank you for your prayers and support of our seminarians.
May God bless you and Mary keep you.Father Shenosky
