There are a number of challenges facing the caravan and
camping industry in Western Australia and to be effective and
relevant in this climate the Association and its Board need to be
bold and plan its growth and services and manage its resources
effectively to achieve its aim and objectives. In line with this the
Board embarked on and completed its Strategic Plan for the
future direction and growth of the Association. This Plan will be
presented to members for their input in the near future.
We are also forging a number of initiatives to boost member
services. We have recently entered into a Membership Services
Agreement with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of
Western Australia whereby all financial members of our Association
will automatically have access to and enjoy all the key services
provided by the Chamber.
The Board is nearing the completion of its new Marketing &
Promotions Plan, which will endeavour to promote the industry and
the caravanning and camping experience on a broad front. We
are also in the midst of launching CIAWA’s new user friendly
website to replace the existing site that’s currently in place. This will
enhance member and consumer experiences significantly.
The Association and its staff have also delivered a very successful
Perth Caravan & Camping Show this year and are forging ahead
with a number of other events and activities in the coming months,
which you can read about in this Newsletter.

CIAWA Newsletter
After months of careful deliberation, the Association has entered into a conditional contract to purchase
its own premises, from which we could operate the various activities of the Association more effectively
and efficiently.
Following the resignation of Ms Katie Hodson-Thomas, the Board embarked on an extensive search for a
new CEO. I am pleased to announce that the Board has appointed Mr Simon Glossop as the CEO of the
Association starting 16th July 2012.
We face the future with confidence and through the provision of well planned and executed services,
promotions and activities, with accountability and transparency in all that we do, your Board will ensure
that this Association is the best.

2012 Goldfields Caravan & Camping Show The 2012 Show is back once again on the 1st & 2nd

2012 Have a Go Day The Caravan Industry Association WA
will be participating at the “Have a
Go Day” on the 14th November 2012
at Burswood Park.
It is an annual event organised by
the Seniors Recreation Council of
Western Australia attracting between
10,000 and 15,000 visitors and its
objective is to encourage over 45’s
to try a number of sporting and
recreational activities and continue
to enjoy these activities by joining
one of the many sport and recrea-
tion clubs catering for their needs.
With the over 45’s being a dedicated
target market for the caravanning
industry, CIAWA believes that there is
a lot of merit in attending the event
to promote the caravanning and
camping lifestyle.
We have booked a larger display this
year which will be manned by the
CIAWA staff and are seeking
expressions of interest from dealers
who wish to display their product on
the site.
For more information please contact

Sponsorship
The Awards will be held at Burswood
Entertainment Complex on the 10th
November 2012, bringing together
WA’s finest tourism organisations for a
gala function where this year’s award
winners will be announced.
Last year CIAWA members, Middleton
Beach Holiday Park won the Gold
medal in the Tourist & Caravan Parks
Category followed by BIG 4
Beachlands Holiday Park who picked
up Silver and Peppermint Park Eco
Village who won Bronze. Furthermore
Global Gypsies won Gold in the
Adventure Tourism Category.
CIAWA are sponsoring the Tourist &
Caravan Parks Category this year and
we wish the best of luck to all our
members who are taking part in the
awards.
Nomination
That’s right, we’ve decided to go for it
ourselves this year and will be nominating the
2012 Perth Caravan & Camping Show for the
Festivals / Events Category of the 2012 Perth
Airport Western Australia Tourism Awards.
This category is open to festivals and events
that create economic impact within the local
community, attract visitors from intrastate/
interstate, generate regional media profile
and positively promote the destination. With
competition from the likes of City of Perth
Australia Day Skyworks who picked up the
2011 Award it’s a tough act.
Watch this space to see if we make the list of
finalists!

>> Financial Report ...
It’s been a very busy time in the office. Thank you all for your patience and
understanding with the delay on the refunds of the security deposits. It took
some time to get the banks authorisation on the new signatories on the
bank accounts to allow the payments to proceed. This was an interruption
we didn’t expect and do apologise if it has caused you any
inconvenience.
The renewals of the memberships are progressing nicely with all invoices
forwarded and approximately half of the payments received. Just a
reminder that Gus Advertising requires all of the memberships to be
financial by the 30 June 2012 to allow the advertising in the 2012-13
Caravan and Camping Guide to proceed.
At the beginning of June we were audited by Anderson Munro and Wyllie
who found that the Association had complied with all relevant
bookkeeping standards and requirements and no corrective actions were
required. Attention was drawn to the format of the asset register and
changes have been made to the register to comply with the auditors
recommendations. The Association remains in a healthy financial position
due to the diligence of The Board and is well postured to fund its ongoing
activities and maintain its investments for the future.
