CIALP EVENTS AT UIA WORLD CONGRESS OF ARCHITECTS UIA 2017, SEOUL, 3rd to 10th SEPTEMBER

The CIALP Seminar will discuss the di�culties, problems and concrete solutions regarding Social Housing as a solution to wider urban challenges.The growth process of large cities will be under discussion as well as issues of densi�cation and sprawl resulting from planning or, due to the lack of planning. We want to raise questions about the design process, the feasibility of materialising a masterplan in the peripheries and the presence or absence of architects in the process.From Brasil, we will be sharing te recent experience of CODHAB: the Government Housing Development authority of the Federal District, and its recent experience with technical assistance and Urban Community Actions and Production of Housing Improvements, devel-oped throught technical units of architects based directly in the favelas of Brasilia.We will also be looking back at urban programs that were Key in resolving urban con�ict, like the municipal programs in Rio de Janeiro Favela-Bairro and Rio-Cidade.From Portugal, we will re-visit the Post-Revolution experiments with Public housing comu-unes of the SAAL Program, and the innovation in methodological approach to neighbour-hood planning.Di�erent experiences from other member countries like Angola and Guiné-Bissau will be presented, looking at alternative methods of self-constrution and local typologies as a response to unplanned urban development.

Esta exposição mostra a pesquisa em desenvolvimento sobre cidades de mar de matriz Portuguesa, suas preferências morfológicas, inseminação territorial e património cultur-al de um ponto de vista da sua condição contemporânea. Macau e o Rio de Janeiro foram os primeiros casos de estudo.

Acreditamos que a criação de lugares urbanos em todas as cidades de matriz Portuguesa não são resultado do óbvio, do pragmático nem de escolhas puramente defensivas: todas elas partilham uma profunda compreensão do seu lugar e um desejo de ecoar cenários e beleza acumulada.

This exhibition is a work in progress reserch on Portuguese-founded seafront cities, their morphological references, territorial insemination and cultural heritage from a contemporary condition perspective: Macau and Rio de Janeiro were our �rst case studies.

We believe that the criation of urban places in all cities of Portuguese origin around the world were never the most obvious, pragmatic nor purely defensive in choice, but they all share a deep understanding of each place and a desire for echoing scenarios and accumulated beauty.
