CIMMYT Action Corridors in SA/India
Operate in ten states:AP, Punjab, Haryana, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, West Bengal, TN & Karnataka
Positioning of CIMMYT for Food security in India
• New food to come from eastern Gangetic Plains & Rainfed Mixed farming systems through bridging ‘management yield gaps’, use of ‘Rice Fallows’, diversification and intensification.
• CA as vehicle for change for sustainable natural resource and crop management to produce more at less cost
• Improvement in genetic yield potential of wheat for early planting and/or tolerant to terminal heat, nutrient and water use efficient cultivars
• Development of Maize (Normal , QPMs ) Inbred /Hybrids for high yield potential in Kharif, Rabi, Spring seasons
• Maize genotypes tolerant to major abiotic stresses and resistance to diseases
• Capacity building in frontier areas

Capacity Building
Regional Training on Conservation Agriculture
Lessons Learnt/Challenges Encountered
Country Lessons Challenges
India • Service providers crucial for large scale delivery
• Need for new cultivars for CA and seed systems.
• Load balancing of machinery manufacturers, spare/service centers
• How to promote straw spreaders in old combines
Pakistan • Commitment of the NARS
• In-field trainings on weed management in DSR
• Lack of research and input services at ground level
• Capacity building of quasi-permanent labors enabling them to make best use machinery.
