CIOp-UNLP Student Chapter. Annual Report. December 2014
This report presents the chapter's activities from December 2013, to December 2014. Some
of them were held at Centro de Investigaciones Ópticas (CIOp), while others took place at
different cities in Argentina.

3. Detailed Chapter activities
Helped in the organization and attended the National Optics Students Meeting
(EEOF2014, http://www.topfot2014.com.ar/ hosted by the Territorial Committee for
Optics (Universidad Tecnológica Nacional, Facultad Regional Delta de la ciudad de
Campana, Provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina, 27th-28th May-2014). This year's
topic was Photonics and Optics Applied to Non-Destructive Testing.
Invited speakers wereDr. Miguel Andrés BouInstituto de Ciencia de los Materiales
de la Universidad de Valencia, España (ICMUV), Dr. Pedro Andrés
BouDepartamento de Óptica, Universidad de Valencia, España.Members from our
chapter (and others from Argentina) attended this meeting and stayed for the National
Optics Meeting (TOPFOT) 29th-30th May. Over 80 students and 60 senior scientists
attended the joint Annual Optics Meeting.
Chapter President Angelica Maria Mesa Yandy attended to the Student Chapter
Leadership Workshop (August 2014) at San Diego Convention Center, San Diego,
California, USA. During this event, chapter officers from Argentina, Colombia,
Brazil, México, India, Chile and United States discussions about possible problems
and solutions presented in student chapters

o Fellowship dinner (August. 9, 2014) the CIOp-UNLP Chapter held its annual
fellowship dinner.
o The 31st of August 7 anniversary of the creation of the student chapter was
held, where the theme of the celebration was the "history of optics" began
watching an episode of cosmos and then a discussion on history was made
optical with the participation of researchers from CIOp. Further down
delicious desserts were shared by the participation and support to the activity.
o Within the program Optics high schools initiated by the chapter this year,
accepted an invitation to make a day of demonstrations Optical, with boys in
primary and secondary of a rural school and Mueseo of Concordia, Entre Rios
where the focus was the optics in our daily lives, and shows the importance of
LEDs and why the Nobel Prize was given in this area.
o Organized and attended the symposium "II Symposium of Plasmonics (Nov.
17 and 18, 2014). Invited speakers were Dr. Vicenzo Amendola University
Padava, Italia(SPIE CIOp-UNLP Chapter invited Lecturer) , all from
Universidad Nacional de La Plata, La Plata, Argentina, was organized by Dra.
Jesica Santillán y Lic. David Muñetón and 20 people participated in this event.
4. Details of planned activities for the future
Help in the organization and collaboration for the TOPFOT 2015 (National
Workshop in Optics and Photophysics) and the EEOF (School for Students of Optics
and Photophysics), to be realized in 2015, in Corrientes, Argentina.
Meetings and CIOp-UNLP SPIE Chapter membership drives.
Organization of a short Symposium about the Visiting Lecturer’s topic.
Maintaining of Chapter Website.
Printed information and publicity.

Rural area school outreach: traveling workshop about solar power and solar cooking.
Local and guest Lecturers at CIOp and UNLP, Physics Department, Exact Sciences
Faculty and Engineering Faculty.
Involved and spread the activities of the International Year 2015 giving symposiums,
lectures and demonstrations about the importance of light in our daily lives.
