Local Youth to Compete in

Amateur Boxing Competition

Fred Maurice, a local athlete’s been training long and hard

in preparation for the R U Tuff Enuff IV amateur boxing

event that will be held at the Art Hauser Centre in Prince

Albert, SK. The Event starts at 6 pm to 11 pm and doors

will be open at 5 pm. Check it out if you happen to be in

Prince Albert this weekend as it is sure to be an exciting

competition. Make some noise in support of Beauval’s very

own talented athlete! Have fun Fred and remember giving

your very best is what makes you a winner! Whatever the

outcome, your family and friends will be very proud of you!

Local Youth Embarks on an Awesome Adventure

Chad Burnouf is realizing one of his dreams and that

is to go to the Olympics one day. Chad, a 22 yr-old

youth from Beauval left home on January 19th to catch

a plane from Saskatoon to Vancouver, BC and

arriving at his destination the next day.

Chad applied for and was successful in being chosen

to work Security during the 2010 Winter Olympic

Games in Vancouver, BC. He attended a week’s

training session in Regina as part of his orientation. He occasionally sends pictures via

his blackberry cell phone and it is obvious that Chad is amazed with the magnificent

beauty of British Columbia, unlike anything he’s ever seen before. He phones home

from time to time just to let his grandparents Viv and Marcel Bouvier and the rest of his

proud family know how much he’s enjoying his adventure.

Although he will be working, there will be free time for Chad to take in some of the

Games and tour the city and all the tourist attractions that make Vancouver such an

exciting place to visit.

Chad will be lodged at the Athletes’ Village located at the beautiful, majestic resort of

Whistler, BC, the place where famous stars or other celebrities are regularly sighted.

Chad will be working for the next few weeks until the end of the Olympic Games and

he should bring back many amazing stories and pictures that he can share with Beauval.

Have fun Chad and come home safe!

Beauval Seniors held another great

monthly party on Thursday, January 21 at

the Mezzanine. A total of 65 seniors

were in attendance including those who

travelled from Ile a la Crosse, Canoe

Lake, and La Plonge Reserve.

It is amazing how volunteers can come

together so the seniors can enjoy

socializing, playing games and enjoying

great snacks in the company of their

friends and family. Without the

volunteers, seniors would not be able to

gather every month for this event that

they all look forward to with great

anticipation. There are those who always

take the time to say 'thank you' as they are

going out the door and that makes

volunteering that much more

worthwhile. However, there are remarks

about what the volunteers are not doing

right or shouldn't be doing. If you have a

concern or suggestion, by all means feel

free to share it with the workers and think

of 'how can you help to reach a

solution?"

The meals are always so well prepared

and nutritious and for that, the credit goes

to the Home Care Staff...Linda, Shelley

and Rose. The rest of the activities such

as bingo are made possible because of

those who take the time to shop for prizes

Senior’s Monthly Parties

often going out of their way to do so and

on their own expense. These volunteers

are not paid and they do this because it is

who they are...caring, helpful and very

much appreciated by the majority of the

seniors.

Thanks to Vivian Bouvier, Cecile Fiedler,

Rose Lafleur, Bernice Gardiner for all the

work they do despite the fact that they're

all seniors too and should be sitting down

enjoying themselves as well. They will be

stepping down soon and it is time for the

younger generations to step up and take

over to help. Your help will be so much

appreciated and guaranteed you will enjoy

the afternoon. Anytime you want to help

out, just come to the senior’s party held

every third Thursday of each month. Rene

Lafleur often stops by to help out

especially with carrying the heavy food

trays that are prepared in the downstairs

kitchen or taking prizes to winners or

helping volunteers with their bingo cards,

etc. Youth helping seniors is what we

need more of.

Thanks to the bingo callers who also take

the time to help out calling four series of

bingo games.

RCMP believe alcohol was a factor after

a 43-year-old woman was killed in a two-

vehicle collision Tuesday on a northern

Saskatchewan highway.

At approximately 5 p.m., RCMP from

Beauval responded to a head-on collision

between a pickup truck and a car on

Highway 165, approximately 10

kilometres south of Beauval. According

to RCMP, the southbound car collided

with the northbound pickup.

A 43-year-old female passenger in the car

died at the scene. The woman is from

Dillon, but her name is being withheld

pending notification of next of kin.

The male driver of the car, along with a

male passenger and female passenger,

were taken to hospital with undisclosed

injuries.

The lone male occupant of the pickup was

also taken to hospital.

Crews from the Beauval fire department

and ambulances from Beauval, Ile-a-la-

Crosse and Buffalo Narrows were also on

the scene.

Charges are pending against the male

driver of the car.

Charges Pending In Fatal Highway Collision

Police in Prince Albert are investigating,

after the body of a 27-year-old man was

discovered on River Street East.

S/Sgt. Bill Chow says the body of Justin

Ernest Gardiner was found Monday

afternoon.

It appears at this juncture that Gardiner

may have died of exposure.

Chow says police encounter this type of

scene far too often.

"In my years of being here at the police

service, unfortunately (we've) run about

two or three a year. For whatever reason it

happens, it happened, but's it's an

unfortunate situation," he says.

Chow says it's not known yet if alcohol

was involved.

At this point, the police don't consider the

matter suspicious.

(Taken from Newsbits by MBC)

Justin was the son of

Ernest (Potty) & Vicky

Gardiner. Justin attended

Valley View Community

School for a few years.

On behalf of the community of Beauval we

would like to send our sincere condolences

to the Ernest, Vicky & family on the loss of

their son/brother. May you find comfort in

the friends and family that surround you

during this difficult time.
