A Top Field for Proven GrowthThe computer information systems (CIS) major, arequirement for many information systems (IS)positions, is designed to prepare students for awide variety of careers, such as programmers,network managers, management informationsystems directors, and systems project leaders forapplications in business, industry, and government.Even in a difficult economy, careers in IS areranked among the top fields for expected growth bythe U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Online ProgramThe CIS-Mobile program is for non-traditionalstudents or working professionals interested inexpanding their skill set. Degree or certificateoptions are available. Students can completethe 39 credit hour CIS major in the comfort oftheir own home or office. Courses are not cohort-based, allowing students to take just one class orcomplete the major requirements in as few asfive semesters or at their own pace. No previouscollege experience is required to begin the CIS-major.
CIS-M courses, which follow the ACM CurricularModel, mirror those available to traditional, on-sitestudents at Milligan. The major encompasses allaspects of the CIS discipline, from programming tonetworking to systems analysis and softwaredevelopment. The program uses MP3s, podcasting,and simulations for fundamental, hands-on labs.
On-site and online CIS courses are taughtsimultaneously within each 15-week semester.Courses are delivered to the student via Milligan’sInternet course management system and thetechnology development lab, using a serverdedicated to facilitate student access to softwaresupplied by Milligan’s Microsoft Developer Network(MSDN) Alliance to enrolled students.
