CIS105 - Survey of Computer Information Systems:
July 2015 slide 1
This presentation is filled with links which lead to different sections of the Open Educational Resource for the required entry level Survey of Computer Information Systems. I have been working on it, with students, since 2009, when Google Sites became available for free.
If you see a topic that interests you, there are usually several links in each slide which will lead you to relevant areas of the resource. The functionality of the links survived PDF conversion. All images and titles also function as links.
A key points of this portfolio model, is that it is modular, and easily modifiable to introduce basic competencies of relevant college programs. e.g. we spend a week on networking.

CIS105 - Portfolio Model
Session Description:➔ CIS 105, the basic required Survey of Computer Information Systems,
1. agile modular approach enables “hooks” to other college programs
2. is optimal for learning and teaching without a textbook, and3. continuous improvement.
➔ The students’ portfolios create bodies of work, which a students are proud of, and which can be used to further enhance their academic and professional opportunities.
➔ Nanotechnology is introduced by crowdsourcing a database from students, each semester, related to nano or disruptive technology and their intended field.
➔ The latest iteration of the portfolio model resulted in significant increase in retention ~85%. July 2015 slide 2

Canvas
July 2015 slide 4
The faculty and student portfolios are open and on the web, if you have the link.
No contact information for students in their portfolios, for their protection. Canvas is used for confidential information, grades, etc.
Students have total ownership of their portfolio and can share with potential employers.

Operating Systems; Devices; Ecosystems; Mindmapping; The Brain; Search Strategies
July 2015 slide 14
I use this assignment to cover hardware and operating system competencies. Results in 500-1000 unique links about the State of the Art.
It is another crowdsourced student compilation, using The Brain mindmapping.
All articles must be less than a month old
Will replace or supplement with hands on kits.
