On Thursday, April 22nd, people all over the planet will celebrateEarth Day by planting trees, participating in community clean-ups,and generally giving back to Mother Earth. But why should goinggreen only last for one day? Here are some easy tips to help makeEarth Day every day:

Give up Styrofoam! Styrofoam is not biodegradable, which means itwill last in a landfill forever. Use a reusable thermos for your morningcoffee, and ask restaurants for plastic or cardboard take outcontainers, which can be recycled.

Purchase recycled content products. Buying recycled content paper towels, toilet paper. andcopy paper helps save trees. If you use plastic cutlery, look for ones made from recycled plastic,or newer, biodegradable materials.

Switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs. CFLs use 75% less energy than traditionalincandescent bulbs. While they are often slightly costlier than incandescents, you'll save moneyon energy, plus CFLs have a longer lifespan.

Switch to rechargeable batteries. Most of the 15 billion batteries manufactured each year arealkaline batteries, which are discarded after their life cycle. Batteries are illegal to throw away inthe regular trash because they can break down in landfills and leak chemicals into thegroundwater. Using rechargeable batteries can save you money through reuse and cuts downon this form of household hazardous waste.

Câmbiese a baterias recargables.
