fence or building an addition on

your home, if you’re digging on

your property call Gopher State One

Call first.

Contact them at 8-1-1 or

www. gopherstateonecall.org at

either a flag or paint, they mark

where any public utility lines are

located on your property. It’s a free

The different colors of the flags

or paint specify the types of utilities

that are underground or the work

that may be done.

Gopher State only locates public

utilities. If you have a sprinkler

system, natural gas line or other

private utility, visit Gopher State

St. Boni Fire Department A firefighter is a rescuer extensively trained

in firefighting, primarily to extinguish

hazardous fires that threaten life, property and

the environment. The St. Boni Fire

Department also respond to medical

emergency calls, vehicle accidents, gas leak

concerns, and rescue calls. One of the rescue calls they responded

to in March 2019 was a fallen horse that was stuck in a stall

doorway!

The members of the Fire Department are reliable, hardworking,

professional, and busy people who have full-time jobs, family and

personal commitments. They respond to emergency calls in their

spare time and during work hours if employer allows. The

Department consists of 27 members and serves not just the City of

St. Bonifacius, but also most of Minnetrista, and parts of Laketown

and Watertown Townships in Carver County. In 2018 the

Department responded to 183 calls. This is up from the 159 calls

in 2017.

City Needs Commissioners The Parks/Planning Commission is an advisory group made

up of volunteers appointed for two-year terms by the City

Council. The commission meets the second and last Tuesdays

of the month, as needed, and members are paid $15 per meeting.

The objective of the Commission is to make recommendations

to the City Council, which will guide the planning and

management of city parks and related services and also research,

review and make recommendations on issues related to land use

and development for the City.

Interested candidates should write a brief request to the City Council, expressing their interest. You can also attend a

Parks/Planning Commission meeting to see if serving on this

commission is right for you.

KEEP OUR PARKS CLEAN Our parks are free for everyone to enjoy and we spend a considerable amount of time keeping them clean and tidy. Dropping litter is illegal and can be dangerous to wildlife and other park users. When you're out enjoying the parks please remember to clean up after yourself. Pick up all your litter and dispose of it in the bins provided, if the bin is full, or you can't find one, please take your litter home (it takes very little effort to do this and makes a huge difference to our parks). Pick up your dog poo, put it in a bag and dispose of it. All owners/walkers have responsibilities in the community and shouldn't allow their pets to foul indiscriminately.

GRASS CLIPPINGS REMINDER With summer comes lawn mowing season. Please remember to sweep all grass clippings off of all hard surfaces including driveways and to not blow them into the street. This is in order to prevent grass clippings from entering the storm sewer. Grass clippings contain phosphorus, which is a pollutant that reduces water quality. Not only is this better for our water supply, but also your lawn! Grass clippings contain nitrogen, and important nutrients for plants. Mowed clippings are equal to about one fertilizer application per year, reducing your fertilizer costs. Thank you for your cooperation!

Common Causes of High Water Bills An unusually high water bill is often caused by a leak or change in water use. Some common causes of high water bills include: A leaking toilet, or a toilet that continues to run; can waste

up to 200 gallons per day A dripping faucet; can waste 20 gallons or more a day Watering the lawn, new grass or trees Kids home for the summer or holidays; guests A broken water pipe or obvious leak; check inside and

outside Water softener problems – cycles continuously

If you receive a bill that you feel is too high, check over the common causes listed above. This may help pinpoint the source of the high bill!

SPRINKLING RESTRICTIONS In an effort to conserve water, St. Bonifacius has some permanent sprinkling restrictions. Lawn sprinkling is prohibited between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. In addition, all households and businesses must follow an odd/even schedule when sprinkling lawns. (Properties that end with an odd number (8601) sprinkle on odd-numbered days; properties that end with an even number (8602) sprinkle on even-numbered days.) Failing to follow sprinkling restrictions can result in fines.

Exceptions: Upon written request a 30-day grace period will be

granted for new seed or sod from the day of planting. However,

sprinkling must be done before 9 a.m. or after 6 p.m.

SEVERE WEATHER REMINDERS Warning Sirens: The warning sirens are tested at 1:00 pm the first Wednesday of every month. As a reminder, these sirens are not necessarily intended to be heard indoors. You should still monitor local media outlets when threatening weather is in the area.

Downed or Low Hanging Wires: If you come across a downed or a low hanging power line please call 9-1-1 and stay at least 25 feet away. Regardless of whether or not they are sparking, all downed wires should be considered dangerous.

Power Outages: In the event that your power is out do not use generators, grills, camp stoves or other fuel burning devices inside a home, garage, basement or other enclosed or semi-enclosed structure. These types of items should be used outside, clear of any open windows or doors. Persons who rely on electrically powered medical equipment should consult with the providor of their equipment to develop a backup plan in the event of a power outage.
