National Gallery
LONDON
October 14, 2014
I chose this because I love Da Vinci’s work. The first thing I noticed was that the frame of the Virgin
of the Rocks was highly decorated.
When I began to look close I realized that the frame was painted gold.
I’m not sure what materials were used or how it was joined together. I wasn’t able to get that close
but I think that it was oil paint on wood
I may incorporate some of the intricate design elements into my work. The detail is very
sophisticated.
Spatial response: overall the frame is very successful. Even though the true work of art is the
painting itself, I think that without the frame, the painting would not be as powerful.

Canterbury Cathedral
CANTERBURY, ENGLAND
November 1, 2014
I chose this cathedral because it was absolutely gorgeous unlike anything else I has ever seen. When
I first walked in I immediately noticed the columns that drew my eyes up to the ceiling
When I looked closer I realized the cathedral was in the form of a cross
Materials used: Stone
I was very inspired by the Canterbury cathedral because of how grand it was. Out of all the
cathedrals, this one tops all of them. I could use this in my own work to give me inspiration.
I thought that this space was extremely successful, having it been rebuilt to explore how it used to
be was very intriguing and the fact that the crypt dated back to the 11th century was quite amazing. I
enjoyed the silence and looking at the architecture of its time. Unbelievable!

Every year at the Tower of London, thousands of poppies are placed around the Tower of London to
commemorate the fallen soldiers from World War I. The poppies were the first thing to catch my
eye.
Not until I looked closer I realized that all the poppies were ceramic
Materials: handmade with ceramic
Poppies are beautiful Flowers, and they have more meaning then just being pretty. Threw my own
interpretation I can inspire myself and use these thoughts in my own work (symbolism)
I thought that this space was extremely successful and absolutely gorgeous. Thousands of people
come to visit the sea of poppies and they just keep growing. It was breath-taking. It really put it into
perspective of how many people lives were lost.
