Healthy Vibe Peers(B-Tech Alternative HS)
•Trained as peer educators for their school (1x/week mtgs), part of the afterschool programs
•Provide nutrition presentations to classes, nutrition-related tabling activities
•Desire by staff and students to learn about what’s happening in their environment
Joining forces with Change Youth Advisors Group
Health Smart! Peers(Middle School)
• Trained as peer educators for their school (1x/week mtgs), part of the afterschool programs
• Provide presentations to classes, tabling activities
• Working with nearby store to limit junk food youth purchase
• Learning about their community
Longfellow MS Garden
“Being healthy is eating right and feeding my body good food, leaving junk food alone.”
Seeing what’s in their community:
“Living a long life, staying away from trouble, and drinking healthy drinks.”
“I LOVE my junk food! I don’t think I’ll EVER stop eating it.”
(later that evening, as reported by her parent the next day):
“I think I eat too much junk…AND I watch too much TV. For a month, I will watch 30 minutes less of TV each week…AND I’ll eat less junk. Can I have an egg for breakfast tomorrow?”
