Children ages 3-8 years old will enjoy participating in games, safety lessons, theme days, and craft making. We offer one six week session for this pro- gram. This program is held at Harper Woods High School. Children must be potty trained. Register early, this program fills up quickly! Dates: June 20-August 3 Fee: $55 per child, includes daily snack and materials. Times: *Children 3-5 years old *Children 6-10 years old 9:00-11:00 am Tuesday & Thursday 11:30-1:30am Tuesday & Thursday Arts & Crafts Tumbling This exciting class will be held on Thursday evenings at the Harper Woods High School. Spending time at the beach, up north, or wherever there is water can be hazardous for a non-swimmer. Our lessons teach children to be independent and safe in the water. Our certified instructors will teach your child all of the tools they need to become a good swimmer, and they have fun too!! The children's lessons are offered for Harper Woods residents only. The classes are held at the Harper Woods High School pool, and are available for one eight week session. *Please register early, classes fill up fast. Tai Chi Enhance your health and reduce your stress with Tai Chi Easy. Learn 5 movements from traditional Yang style Tai Chi that can be done sitting or standing plus other gentle movements, breathing exercises and self-applied massage. Tai Chi Easy can improve balance, lower blood pressure, reduce pain, improve immune sys-tem function and increase mental focus. Dates: June 15-July 27 *(No class on June 29. Swimming Lessons

In today’s society, it is easy to become overworked and under-rested. Yoga is an excellent way to shape up your body and

mind. Yoga relaxes the mind and body while help-ing to develop concentration, awareness and bal-ance. This class is held on Mondays at the Harper Woods High School. It runs for (2) four week ses-sions. Dates: Session I: June 19-July 17 Session II: July 24-August 14 Times: 6:30-7:45 Cost: $35 per session or $10 drop in fee per class.

Beginning Adult Swim Lessons Adults, now you can learn how to swim and be confi-dent in the water. We offer one eight week session at the Harper Woods High School Pool. Ages 18 & Up. Day: Tuesdays Dates: June 20-August 15 Times: 6:00pm-6:45pm Cost: $60 for 8 weeks Water Aerobics Water aerobics is a great low impact workout. Summer Dance Come join the fun and dance in the

summer! Classes will be held on the stage in the Harper Woods High School Auditorium. Family members and friends have the option to stay and watch every class. There are ballet barres. The high school is located on Bea-consfield about 1/3 mile south of Vernier. There is no resi-dency requirement. Please call program director Nonny Sperry with questions at 313-885-3714. Students can “dress up” for the princess class if they want! Dancers age 8 and up can choose from the 7:15 or 8:00 class. DANCE SHOWCASE We are having a “Showcase” at the end of the session. Each class will show the short routine they learned to their family, friends and the other classes. There is no costume purchase or tickets required for this. We think it is a fun and interesting opportunity for the dancers to see what other classes accomplished and gain experience performing! The classes below will be held after the showcase: Princess Dance Class, ages 3-7 (August 15 from 6:30-7:15) Dance Team Drills and Skills, ages 8 and up (August 15 from 7:15-7:55) Enhance Your Dance, ages 8 and up (August 15 from 8:00-8:40)

Pinochle and Cards

Feeling Lucky? You can tempt the luck of the draw every Thursday, at the Harper Woods Li-

brary. Pinochle and other card games are played from 1:00-4:00pm.

Basketball Camp The Neighborhood United basketball league is for boys & girls in the 3rd through 10th grades.

All players will be broken down into grade levels. We wel-come beginners as well as competitive players. The basket-ball league will play at least 10 games. Registration will be held June 27th, 28th and 29th from 4pm-7pm at the Harper Woods High School, located on Beaconsfield. Registration fee is $65.00 for Harper Woods residents. Limited spaces are available. League starts Wednesday, July 6th. For more information contact Coach Will 313-670-2494.

Senior Club Events Services for Older Citizens

This organization provides assistance with many needs for older adults ages 60 & up in Harper Woods

and the Grosse Pointes. If you need some help or have a question, please contact the SOC at 313-882-

9600 for information on available services.

Pickleball Pickleball was created with one thing in mind: fun. It was designed to be easy to learn and play whether you’re five, eighty-five or somewhere in between. There will be a free pickleball clinic on Monday June 26 6-8pm. The court will be open for pickleball Tuesday and Thurs-days 6-8pm beginning June 29-August 3. The courts will be open for 5 weeks. The pickleball court is located at Johnston Park next to the tennis courts.

Looking for a fun sport for your child to play? Let them play soccer! Children ages 3-4 and 5-6 years of age will participate in clinics, practices and games held at Johnston Park. Practices, clinics and home games will be played at Johnston Park, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The first game is on Saturday, September 16 and the season runs through October 7. Practices begin Satur-day, September 9th. Dates: September 9-October 7 Times: Wednesdays 5:45 pm Saturdays 10:00 am Fees: Ages 3-6 $40 for one child, $25 for each additional child in the same family.

Multi-Purpose Rink Come up to Johnston Park and take advantage

of our multi-purpose rink. In the summer you can inline skate and skateboard. The rink is located

right next to the tennis courts. Pickleball will be set up on this court on Tuesdays and Thursdays for

those who want to play.

Park Facilities The Recreation Department has three parks for community use, each with children’s playground equipment and picnic sites. Picnic reservations will be taken from May through Labor Day. Only one picnic allowed per household per year. No moon bounces, trains, charcoal grills, bands or DJ’s allowed for picnics. Reserve at least one month in advance, minimum of two weeks in advance. Refunds for can-cellations are only given if you cancel at least 4 weeks before your scheduled picnic date. **There are no dogs al-lowed in the parks** Park Fees There is a fee for picnic reservations. A shelter at Johnston or Salter Park is $50. The Pavilion at Salter is $75. The fee is due at the time of reservation. Cash or check only. Financial Scholarship Program The City of Harper Woods believes in providing recreation opportunities to all residents regardless of economic circumstances. For a confidential inquiry, please contact the Recreation Director at 343-2560. Recreation Refund Policy 1. Refund requests must be submitted in writing to the Recreation Department within the first two weeks of the program. 2. No refunds will be given after the second week of class, except under special circumstances, i.e. medical reasons. 3. Refunds will be given in check form through City Hall for amounts over $10.00 or as credit for future recreation registration fees for amounts of $10.00 or less.
