Compensation and BenefitsSalary and Relocation: Salary up to $111,592 per year dependent upon your experience and qualifications. Relocation assistance provided.

Health Insurance: City contributions to health are dependent upon your medical enrollment and offset the cost of medical, dental, vision, and additional life insurance. Current monthly family contribution is $1,319.

Retirement: CalPERS Classic Members are enrolled in the 2% @ 60 formula; New Members are enrolled in the 2% @ 62 formula. The City does not participate in Social Security.

Supplemental Retirement: The City contributes 1% of salary to a supplemental retirement plan and additional deferred compensation plans are available.

Long Term Disability and Life Insurance: 66 2/3% of salary up to $11,250 per month (maximum benefit is $7,500) and a $54,000 life insurance policy.

Schedules and Time Away From Work: A 9/80 work schedule that reduces commuting and negative impacts on the environment and affords employees 26 days away from work in a year. Accrue vacation at the rate of 12 days per year increasing to 20 days after 20 years and 12 days of sick leave annually. Receive 48 hours of administrative leave annually and enjoy 13 paid holidays.

Professional Development: Participation in professional organizations and conferences is encouraged as is the City’s Leadership and Learning Academy offering supervisory and leadership academies. Tuition reimbursement up to $1,500 per year is also available.

Critical RoleThe City Clerk is a highly visible role in SLO; interacting with Council and an active, engaged community, advising the senior management team, and collaborating with regional partners. As such, “ideal” candidates will possess the following qualities, characteristics, and/or education and experience:• A passion for public service. • High ethics and integrity.• Ability to exercise sound judgment while

displaying sensitivity and responsiveness to changing circumstances or needs.

• Leads by example and enjoys coaching and mentoring others.

• Enthusiasm for technology and how it can enhance openness and transparency.

• Bachelor’s in business administration, public administration, political science, or related field of study and four years of increasingly responsible management experience in operations similar to those provided by a City Clerk’s Office or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Notarial certification required.• A Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) or Master

Municipal Clerk (MMC) designation is highly desirable.
