A Message from the MayorDuring his recent State of the City Address, Santee Mayor John Minto gave an update on the Highway 52 Coalition. Here’s a special note from Mayor Minto to keep you informed of the latest developments.
After taking office in 2016, I began holding meetings regarding traffic in Santee and on State Route 52. Everyone agreed; fix it. The problem; no one knew the answer. After a period of research, it turns out the easy answer is money. The hard part; finding the money and bringing it to our region.
In September 2018, I launched the Highway 52 Coalition, which is a bi-partisan, multi-interest, economic and community-minded effort focused on educating local, state and federal lawmakers and officials around funding needed to improve the SR-52. Our diverse public and private sector coalition includes regional and local interests connected to the SR-52 and focuses on collaboration around goals and opportunities for the San Diego region.
I met with East County Mayors Bill Wells, Mark Arapostathis, Racquel Vasquez and Poway Mayor Steve Vaus which resulted in their support for the coalition. Council Members Ronn Hall, Laura Koval and City Manager Marlene Best and I held meetings in Sacramento with state legislators. We have also appeared before local committees and associations regarding the Highway 52Coalition plans. In the first week of May, Marlene and I will go to Washington D.C. to appear before congressional committees and meet with Senators representing California and all of the San Diego Congressional Members.
As always, have a great day, wherever you are in East County.
Mayor John Minto
