City Tram Extension Project Construction update – Stages 4 and 5 Monday 1 January 2018 (10pm) to Monday 15 January 2018 (6am) The State Government has committed $80 million in funding for the first stage of the AdeLINK tram network to the city’s East End. This project will deliver a one-kilometre extension of the tram line along North Terrace, from King William Street to East Terrace, and a 350 metre extension north along King William Road to the Festival Plaza Precinct. When complete, new services will provide access to the bustling East End shopping, restaurant and tourism precinct, while further invigorating the city's cultural and education boulevard. The next stage of works will commence 10pm Monday 1, January 2018. City Tram Extension Project Construction update – Stages 4 and 5 Monday 1 January 2018 (10pm) to Monday 15 January 2018 (6am)

The State Government has committed $80 million in funding for the first stage of the Ade LINK tram network to the city’s East End.

This project will deliver a one-kilometre extension of the tram line along North Terrace, from King William Street to East Terrace, and a 350 metre extension north along King William Road to the Festival Plaza Precinct. When complete, new services will provide access to the bustling East End shopping, restaurant and tourism precinct, while further invigorating the city's cultural and education boulevard. The next stage of works will commence 10pm Monday 1, January 2018.

Project Staging The project has been staged to minimise disruption where possible to Christmas retail, events and cultural and university calendars.

Stage 1: Night-time enabling works Ongoing

Stage 2: North Terrace Complete

Stage 3: King William Street/Road Complete

Stage 4: North Terrace/King William Road intersection 1 to 15 January 2018 - Works completed in time for the Tour Down Under

Stage 5: Night-time finishing works Ongoing until end of the first quarter of 2018

Stage 4 - Intersection of North Terrace and King William Street Stage 4 will involve the installation of tram tracks at the intersection of North Terrace and King William Street, including matching into the existing tram lines. New overhead wires will also be installed.

Stage 4 works will be undertaken from 10pm on Monday 1 January 2018 until 6am Monday 15 January 2018, with works occurring 24 hours a day.

Undertaking these works 24 hours a day will assist to minimise disruption. Works at the intersection will continue at night until 22 January 2018 to finish overhead wiring.

Intersection closed to vehicles During the works period, the intersection of King William Street and North Terrace will be closed to all vehicles. Alternate access has been arranged for Emergency Services and buses will use a designated access lane during events.

Motorists will be encouraged to use the Inner City Ring Route (A21) using Hackney Road, Park, Robe and Fitzroy terraces and Port Road.

Tour Down Under Stage 4 works have been carefully staged to avoid major events where possible.

The North Terrace and King William Street intersection will be reopened before Stage 2 of the Tour Down Under, which travels down King William Street and King William Road.

Construction impacts During the closure of the intersection of North Terrace and King William Street, construction impacts will include noisy activities such as rock breaking. Dust and vibration may also be experienced.

Planning your journey During the works visitors to venues such as the Adelaide Festival Centre, Elder Park, Adelaide Oval and Torrens Parade Ground are encouraged to plan their journey and allow for additional time.

Temporary disruption to tram services

From 10pm 1 January to 22 January 2018, tram services will not be running between Victoria Square and the Entertainment Centre.

Substitute bus services will be in operation during this period.

Changes to bus routes during the works From 10pm 1 January until 15 January 2018, there will be changes to bus routes due to the works at the intersection of North Terrace and King William Street.

Bus services to the cricket will still be provided.

Stage 4: North Terrace and King William Street Inte rsection – traffic and pedestrian movements

Pedestrians and cyclists Access along North Terrace and King William Street footpaths will be maintained for the duration of Stage 4.

Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to cross at dedicated crossing locations on North Terrace and King William Street during the works as indicated on the map below.

Traffic controllers will be on site to assist pedestrians and motorists. Please stay safe, particularly at busy times and during events by following the directions of traffic controllers.

Special events Pedestrian access to events such as Big Bash League and events at the newly opened Festival Theatre and at Elder Park will be provided during the works period, with all footpaths remaining open and crossings provided.

The northern entrance to the Adelaide Railway Station will also be reopened during major events.

Tourist coaches and buses servicing special events will be provided a special drop off and bus u-turn facility located close to the Adelaide Railway Station.

Finishing works (Stage 5) Finishing works will continue into the first quarter of 2018 and will be undertaken mostly at night between 8pm – 6am, with some minor works occurring during the day.

Works will also be undertaken to install tram stop shelters and seats for the new stops along North Terrace. New light poles and wires will also be installed during December 2017 and will continue across the project in January 2018.

Resurfacing of North Terrace and King William Road adjacent to the works will be undertaken in January 2018, along with the installation of the Festival Plaza tram stop.

Commencement of new tram services to the East End Whilst the majority of works will be completed by mid January 2018, there will be a period of commissioning and testing before trams can start taking passengers on the new line.
