The City of Burlington initiated a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study to prevent erosion and improve the quality of water and habitats within Shoreacres Creek from Millcroft Park Drive to the CN Rail. The purpose of the study was to prevent erosion along Shoreacres Creek, provide aquatic and terrestrial habitat enhancements where possible, improve the quality of Shoreacres Creek, reduce the risk of failing infrastructure, and provide enhanced aesthetics for surrounding landowners.

The Class Environmental Assessment has provided recommendations, leading to Municipally-led capital works to address erosion risks located in Shoreacres Creek. The study was done as a ‘Schedule B’ project in compliance with the Municipal Engineers Association document “Municipal Class Environmental Assessment,” (October 2000, amended in 2007 and 2011) which addressed Phases 1 and 2 of the Class EA Process.

The Class EA study determined that the preferred alternative solutions were to implement bio-engineering solutions and realignment/reconstruction of the creek at major erosion locations within the study area to control bank erosion.

The Project File will be fi led with the City of Burlington for a public review period of 30 calendar days, starting Monday, Oct. 12, 2015. The Project File can be reviewed at the following locations:

City HallCity of BurlingtonClerk’s Offi ce, First Floor426 Brant St., Burlington, ONL7R 3Z6Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Burlington Public LibraryTansley Woods 1996 Itabashi Way, Burlington, ONL7M 4J8Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

During the review period, the public will have the opportunity to review the Project File and provide written comments or concerns to the project team members identifi ed below by Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015. If any persons/party cannot resolve their confl icts with the City of Burlington, they have the right to submit a Part II Order request to the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change. If a Part II Order request is fi led, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change will review the request, attempt to resolve any confl icts, and make a fi nal decision about if an individual Environment Assessment should be conducted for the project. This request must be submitted to the Minister before Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015 and a copy will also be sent to the City of Burlington at the addresses noted below.

If there are no requests received by the end of the review period, the City of Burlington will proceed with detailed design and construction of the preferred alternative.
