Why Civic Addressing?
What are the limitations of traditional methods for acquiring emergency location?• Landmarks can change• Verbal descriptions can be misinterpreted• Emergency responder local knowledge is not
guaranteed• Not all emergencies are located by smoke

What is Civic Address Registry?
• A province-wide standardized system of identifying and locating properties by establishing a unique access point location (driveway).
• Within the context of 911 services, the location must be associated with human activity.
• There is no personal information stored in the Civic Address Registry

Community Participation
Municipality Act
Municipality Act - Naming street or road17(1) A municipality may name streets or roads or areas within its boundaries and may assign a number or other means of identification to buildings or parcels of land.(2) A municipality may require an owner or occupant of a building or a parcel of land to display the identification assigned to it pursuant to subsection (1) in a manner established by bylaw.

What is needed
• This voluntary program allows a designated contact person from each community to review the address points in their area.
• These will include any address sites that the community submitted to CAR as part of the initial data collection, as well as any suggested addresses that were created by the CAR program for locations where no information was submitted.
• CAR will look to the community to confirm any incorrect or missing information.

Getting Started
Once a designated contact is determined, they can:• Create an online account on the Civic Address
Registry Website at www.saskaddress.ca
• Contact the Provincial Help Desk at 1-844-407-0077 or email at [email protected] for welcome package and training information.

Resourcing
If there is limited staff resourcing, consider the following options:• Provide as a job opportunity for students or
part time staff• Have councillors engaged and verify addresses
within their divisions.• Participate and work on civic addressing
during slower work seasons (winter project)

• This training provides detailed information on the Civic Address Registry program, specific workflow steps when participating in Civic Addressing and its benefits to public safety.
• The session will discuss the best practices when validating civic addressing.
• Duration: 1 1/2 hrs

Civic Address Registry Webinar Level 2 – Road Name Update Process
• This training provides insight on how Saskatchewan road data is maintained and how its upkeep is important to the effectiveness of Sask911.
• The session will help identify key agencies involved in the update process, and provide the information and tools needed for you to ensure that your community roads are up to date for the benefit of public safety.
• Duration: 1 hour

Civic Address Registry Webinar Level 3 – Website Address Updates
• This one-on-one training provides detailed instruction on how to use the online Civic Address Registry Web Mapping Application for updating your civic addresses.
• Examples specific to your community are used to demonstrate the tools and functionality of the website as well as editing best practices.
• Duration: 2 hrs

Government Relations Role
Government Relations Role is to…
• Inform municipal authorities and emergency responder agencies about civic address registry
• Provide introduction, welcome package (maps, list, data sharing agreement)
• Facilitate the validation and updating of civic addresses
• Provide free technical support in the use of the CAR Web Mapping application
• Facilitate training opportunities• Provide final validation package (maps, list)
