About Civil Air Patrol
Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is the newest member of the Air Force’s Total
Force. In this role, CAP operates a fleet of 560 aircraft, performs about 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search
and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with
saving an average of 80 lives annually. CAP’s 57,000 members also perform homeland security, disaster relief and
drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. CAP also plays a leading role in aero-
space/STEM education, and its members serve as mentors to 24,000 young people participating in CAP’s Cadet
Programs. Visit www.GoCivilAirPatrol.com for more information.
About the Rhode Island Wing
As of 1 January 2018 the RI Wing (www.riwg.cap.gov) had 180 members (100 cadets and 80 adult officers). Our
wing commander is Col. William H. Stranahan III, who took command of the wing in December of 2017.
For more information about the history of the RI Wing, any of its squadrons or for up-to-date information on mem-
bership numbers, missions, exercises, training, etc., please use the Media Contact information above.
Media Access and Fly/Ride-Alongs
We will make every possible effort to accommodate media during active Civil Air Patrol missions. Please use the
Media Contact above to request information on available media staging areas and contact information for the mis-
sion Public Information Officer.
During exercises and non-emergency missions, the media may be allowed to ride in Civil Air Patrol aircraft/
vehicles for aerial/ground coverage and photography/videography. Again, please use the media contact information
above. All fly/ride-alongs require coordination with RI Wing and the agency in command, so please submit your
requests as soon as possible. If you plan on making ride-along requests in the future, you may contact us to coordi-
nate and complete some pre-requisites ahead of time.
Cadet Protection Policy
When writing an article involving a Civil Air Patrol youth member, please only use the cadet's name, rank, and
hometown unless specifically approved by the Wing Public Affairs Officer.
If I can be of any further assistance, please feel free to contact me anytime via the media contact information listed
at the top of the first page. It is my objective to assist you in obtaining the access and information that you need.
Sincerely,
SFO Chase Boni, CAP
RI Wing Public Affairs Officer
