This is a great opportunity for parents and coaches to get together in an early season social setting. So come down to support your club and have an enjoyable evening. @Clannagaelfont New club appointments While playing activity eased off over the summer weeks – at least at under-age level – it’s been busy at the club off the playing field. Among the more important developments has been the appointment of John McGlynn as the new Games Development Officer (GDO) and of Ciarán Pollock as the new Games Promotion Officer (GPO). Both bring a wealth of experience with them which will be invaluable in the development and promotion of coaching standards and playing skills at the club. L to R: Ciarán Pollock (GPO), Bernard Barron (Chairman) and John McGlynn (GDO) John has most recently worked with St Judes and with the Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Ruadh club where he has been involved with both under-age teams and senior teams. He also spent a number of years working with the hurlers, footballers and camogie players at O’Tooles, as well as playing a role with Dublin hurling development squads and Dublin colleges hurling teams. Many of his own playing days were with the Good Counsel hurling and football teams. Ciarán comes to us from St Anne’s GAA Club where he fulfilled all the duties of a Gaelic promotion officer and in that role liaised actively with local schools and teachers. He has also been closely involved with Firhouse Taekwon-do club in teaching and designing classes for both kids and adults, as he has also been with CoachApproach in setting up and running events for kids. Recent summers have seen him working as sports counsellor with age groups 7-15 at Kamp Kohut, Maine, USA. All club mentors and coaches will have the opportunity to meet and hear from John and Ciarán at the launch of our Player Pathway programme on Friday the 8th of September at 7.30pm. This programme is a long-term player development model which should provide a consistent platform from which we can enable players to reach their full potential. So all mentors and coaches are most welcome – indeed encouraged – to attend on the 8 th next.

Canadian visitors Coinciding with Ireland’s recent hosting of the Women’s Rugby World Cup, a number of the Canadian rugby squad visited the club to see for themselves what camogie was all about. A number of our club coaches and players were on hand to show them the drills.

Canadian team member, Julianne Zussman, said: “Today was a wonderful opportunity to be able to experience one of Ireland’s traditional sports and learn camogie from a great group of young ladies. We want to thank Clanna Gael Fontenoy GAA Club for such a memorable experience.”

Pitch maintenance

The quieter summer weeks provide the opportunity for much-needed pitch maintenance work to be carried out. As our photo shows, this involves a good deal of re-sodding to ensure a good and safe playing surface for when full activity resumes.

Summer camps The success of the club summer camps was none more so evident than in the hundreds of kids who turned out this year for skills development, fun and games. This saw the new club Games Development Officer, John MGlynn, quickly get into his stride; and he was well supported by a bevy of volunteers – not least in the trojan work of Michele O’Briain. Visits by a number of the Dublin footballers added plenty of spice to the camps.
