Small Town Decline: Rural Patterns of Decay Autumn Open Submission Exhibition 2019Fri 11 Oct – Sat 11 Jan 2020 Launches on Fri 18 Octglór is delighted to present a mixed media exhibition featuring the work of both established and emerging artists. glór launched its open call exhibition asking artists nationally to respond to the theme of Small Town Decline: Rural Patterns of Decay. Work selected includes print, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and textiles as well as painting and photography, and showcases the diverse range of work being made both locally and nationally.

glór presents The First Friday Series: Curated by Emma Houlihan Fri 4 Oct, Fri 1 Nov & Fri 6 Dec 12.30pm the Spás at glórFirst Fridays is a monthly series of talks and interactions with some of Ireland’s leading visual arts practitioners, both curators and artists, including a light lunch. This season of First Fridays has been curated by Emma Houlihan. Emma’s theme for the series is Beyond Development. Through dialogue with invited speakers and audiences the intention is to manifest new creative communities in County Clare.

Fri 4 Oct: Michele HorriganMichele Horrigan’s work as a Curator has primarily been in the context of Askeaton Contemporary Arts, an organisation she founded in 2006. Based in County Limerick, a residency and exhibition programme has commissioned over one hundred individual projects by Irish and international artists. Michele has presented events nationally and internationally, and co-edits ACA PUBLIC, a publication press that continues to research themes relating to the ideologies of public space and artistic agency.

Fri 1 Nov: Rachel Macmanus Rachel Macmanus works through the medium of drawing and live art. Her emerging live art practice is concerned with experimenting with physicality and repetition. She is currently developing new work in glór’s studio. Rachel will discuss her practice and how to create opportunities as an emerging artist. Some of Rachel’s work will be shown as part of Culture Night in glór on September 20th.

Fri 6 Dec: Free MarketFree Market is an architecture exhibition and ongoing research project that explores the importance and possible future of small market towns in Ireland. Originally conceived as the Irish National Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia 2018, Free Market won widespread acclaim for its exploration of the unique identity of Irish rural towns when it showed in Venice in 2018.

Free Market is curated by a collaborative team of architects and designers, Jeffrey Bolhuis, Jo Anne Butler, Miriam Delaney, Tara Kennedy, Laurence Lord and Orla Murphy.

glór gallery is open upstairs in glór from 10am – 5pm daily and is free of charge. Come in, have a coffee and a wander around one of our superb exhibitions featuring renowned Irish artists and craftspeople.

The Studio Sessions at glór: Words and MusicThurs 17 Oct; Weds 30 Oct; Thurs 14 Nov; Thurs 28 Nov and Thurs 12 Dec 8.30pm €10This intimate series of traditional music concerts in glór studio brings together some really interesting pairings of musicians at work in and around Co. Clare today. It also showcases the very high calibre of traditional music performance in the county. But equally importantly, it makes time for stories as well as music.

Fiddler and broadcaster Joan Hanrahan will play a concert with accordion-player, singer and raconteur Joe Carey. Piper Máire Ní Ghráda teams up with her brother flute-player Conal Ó Gráda. Music companions Jackie Daly (accordion) and fiddler Eileen O’Brien will also entertain us with music and tales.

Aaron Monaghan Teaches ActingTues 8 Oct 10am – 4.30pm €25 Limited Capacityglór is delighted to offer a day long masterclass for adults with Aaron Monaghan, one of the most sought-after actors of Irish stage and screen. This masterclass will focus on contemporary and well-known texts, as well as Shakespeare. Aaron will also cover physical and vocal work, with each participant receiving individual tuition. Aaron Monaghan is an award-winning actor and director, who has performed many diverse roles including DruidMurphy, for which he received an Irish Times Theatre Award, and with Landmark/Wide Open Opera and The Abbey Theatre. He is co-founder and Artistic Director of Livin’ Dred theatre company. Capacity is limited for this masterclass, and early booking is advised. Supported by Creative Ireland.

Space Week School's Workshops with Deirdre Kelleghan Tues 8 Oct €10/€8 Conc. Suitable for ages 8 – 12 All materials supplied

Let’s Go to the Moon: Apollo 11 10.30 – 11.30am July 20th 2019 marked the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. This workshop will tell the story of Apollo 11, followed by a drawing session where each child will produce a pastel drawing of an aspect of the mission. A4 Apollo 11 information sheet and European Southern Observatory stickers for all taking part.

Our Sun and other Stars 2.30 – 3.30pm Presentation followed by a drawing session. This workshop will look at our sun in detail and children will draw aspects of the activities on our sun as well as a winter constellation so they can recognise it in the sky at night. Children will learn where stars come from and why they are different colours. European Southern Observatory stickers for all taking part.
