There will be a Nearly New Uniform sale on Friday 20th March in the Lodge on the top playground from 8.30-9.30pm.

The last sale raised £210 for the PTA and we very much appreciate your support with these sales.

Headteacher Catch Up

What an exciting week we have had, starting with the school council attending the Raising of the Commonwealth Flag

ceremony at the town hall. It was an incredible opportunity for the children to take part, along side other schools from

Tunbridge Wells. The Mayor and his wife shared how the council chamber works during normal business through a talk

This week’s recipe

Food: Eating the right foods

Rest: Getting enough sleep

Exercise: Being active

Digital Devices: Managing time spent online

Recipe 14: Homemade fish finger sarnie

Ingredients:

For the sarnie:

300g skinless white fish fillet

1 large egg, beaten

50g cornflakes, blitzed or bashed into crumbs

3 sweet potatoes, cut into chunky chips

1 tbsp olive oil

4 small wholemeal buns

small handful mixed salad leaves

1 lemon, cut into wedges

For the tartare sauce:

2 tbsp light mayonnaise

1 tbsp gherkins

1 tsp capers, rinsed and chopped

Method:

1. Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Cut the fish into 4 equal-sized portions. Dip in beaten egg, coat in

cornflakes, then chill for 10 mins. Toss sweet potatoes in oil and seasoning, then cook for 20 mins on a

baking tray. Meanwhile, make the tartare sauce. Mix all the ingredients with some seasoning, then set

aside.

2. Remove the sweet potato chips, turn them over, add the fish to the tray and cook everything for 15 mins

This week’s featured class – Ash

Year 4

Y4 require some parental help to walk to Metro Bank on Friday 20th March, leaving at 9.30am and returning around

11am. Please let the office know if you would be able to come along. Many thanks, Mr Hogwood and Miss Newby

Over the past couple of weeks, Ash have taken part in some amazing experiences which have really enhanced and

brought our learning to life!

Within our ‘Explore’ theme we have been comparing Tunbridge Wells to Dharavi, India. What better way to explore

traditional Indian culture than being fully immersed in an Indian themed morning run by parent experts.

We absolutely loved our activities which were: henna designing, trying on clothes and accessorises, writing number

bonds to 10 in hindi and tasting traditional sweet and savoury snacks. Here are a few photos from our morning:

Thank you so much to the parents who delivered the activities. We learnt so much from your expertise and are so

grateful for your time and generosity.

Ash also loved Science Week. We teamed up with Elm, Saplings and Acorns to experience four different scientific

investigations. These included magnetic mazes, bridge building, fixing Paddington Bear’s umbrella and using our senses.

Take a look at some of the action!

Year 6

Y6 expert – renewable energy

On Tuesday, we were lucky enough to have Mr Boles visit both Y6 classes. He is an expert in energy production having

worked around the world installing power stations, grid networks and renewable projects. He shared his knowledge and

fielded questions for the children who were engaged and came out of the experience with a greater knowledge on the

subject. This will really benefit them with their school projects on renewable energy solutions pitching them to the

classes in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style presentation. We thank Mr Boles for his time and expertise.

Sports News

Last Tuesday, Y2 took part in the Rapid Fire Cricket Tournament at Hayesbrook School. 20 children came from Maple and

Rowan with some representing the school for the first time. Our two teams of 10 competed in 4 matches each against a

variety of schools from Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells. In the games, all children got to bat by hitting 3 tennis balls off a

cone before seeing how many runs they could collect while the fielding team collected the balls up and placed them back

on the cones to stop the running. All the children had an incredible amount of fun with our A-team being joint winners of

the tournament. Thank you to all the parents who came to support and offer lifts.

Sports Team t-shirts

Over the last few months, Claremont has been incredible active in participating in a number of sports events. All children

were provided a t-shirt to wear to the event(s) – see photos below. Please can I ask that if you have borrowed one that it

is returned to Mr Hume ASAP as we are running low on these and therefore will not be able to provide them to children

who may compete at a future event.

Many thanks, Mr Hume
