Established in 2006, the Spikes are working to make 2011 their best year to date as the Single-A Affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Playing in gorgeous Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, this state of the art 5,570 seat facility is shared with the Penn State Nittany Lions Baseball Program, which competes in the Big Ten Conference, and is also open to the public for tailgating events during Penn State Football Saturdays.

The State College Spikes celebrated a great 5th Anniversary Year in 2010. The Spikes broke their single-game attendance record twice, first with a franchise-record 5,775 fans on Opening Night, and then eclipsing that with 5,807 fans on July 30th! The Spikes day-of-game ticket sales this year were also the best in franchise history with four games breaking the 1,000 mark and setting a single-game record on the last game of the year (1,625).

Some very exciting off-field news also happened for the Spikes on August 4th, 2010, as their Chairman and Managing Partner, Chuck Greenberg, and Hall of Fame Pitcher, Nolan Ryan emerged victorious in a bankruptcy court auction, winning the right to purchase the Texas Rangers. Chuck, who continues in his role with the Spikes, is now Managing Partner and CEO of the American League Champion Texas Rangers.
