The Global Connections elective class at Clayton Middle School conducted a school-wide vote for the top New7Wonders. Each students became a campaign manager for a specific candidate and researched their site, as well as the country it is located in. Each of the "campaign managers" created campaign posters, PowerPoint presentations, board games, and models of their candidates.

The History of the Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower was built during years 1887 and 1889. The person who constructed the Eiffel Tower was Gustave Eiffel. The engineers of the Eiffel Tower is Maurice Koechlin and Emile Nouguier. The architect’s name is Stephen Sauvestre. Gustave Eiffel had the Eiffel Tower built because he entered in an 1889 Universal Exhibition. It was only supposed to stay up for 20 years but it stayed up longer because people thought it symbolized the country. It took exactly, 2 years, 2 months, and 5 days to build. The tower was opened to the public on March 31, 1889. There were 300 construction workers working on the Eiffel Tower. Only 1 person was killed during construction. There are 2,500,000 rivets in the Eiffel Tower. There are also 18,038 steel pieces in the Eiffel Tower. The total height of the Eiffel Tower is 300.51 meters high.

There are three levels of the Eiffel Tower, the first level is 57 meters high, the second level is 115 meters high, and the third level is 276 meters high. If you include the television antenna the height of the Eiffel Tower is 320.755 meters. The total weight of the Eiffel Tower is 7,000 tons. The base is 412 square feet. The Eiffel Tower requires 50 tons of paint per 7 years. The paint color is dark brown. People say that there are 1789 to the top of the Eiffel Tower. There are 352 projectors of 1,000 watts in the Eiffel Tower. There are 5,530,279 visitors at the Eiffel Tower per year. The first radio transmission was in 1918. The first TV transmission was in 1957. it was the tallest structure in the world until the Chrysler Building. Two Englishman parachuted down the Eiffel Tower in 1984. Also a journalist rode his bicycle down the Eiffel Tower in 1923.

What makes the Eiffel Tower globally important?

The Eiffel Tower is important to the world because it is a part of history. Also because it symbolizes challenge and strength. Furthermore the Eiffel Tower is a historical monument and it is one of the oldest architect structures in the world.
