Net Price CalculatorWhere you can find net price calculators. Schools are federally obligated to
post their net price calculator for freshmen on their website. It can be hard finding these calculators. Some schools don’t want you to use them because you could discover how stingy they are.
An easy way to look for a school’s calculator is to Google the name of the institution and net price calculator.
Bottom Line: Use net price calculators before
your child finalizes his/her college list. There is no point in letting your child get excited about particular schools if their costs will be exorbitant.
Use these calculators strategically. See how assets and a child’s test scores/GPA could change awards.
Ask a school how accurate its calculator is.
Check how old each school’s cost figures are.
Use the results of net price calculators to develop a list of schools that will be financially doable.

How many schools should my child apply to?
“Dream School”Likely—a pretty good chance of getting inSafety—a sure thing for admission and costUltimately, deciding how many schools to apply to is a family decision. However, counselors generally recommend to consider applying to one to two schools in each category.

Applying Early?
Early decision and early action plans allow students to apply early (usually by October or November) and get an admissions decision December or January.
Early Decision versus Early Action• Early decision plans are binding. A student who is accepted as an ED
applicant must attend the college.• Early action plans are similar but are not binding, which means students
receive an early response but do not have to commit to the college until the normal reply date of May 1.
• Please check the policies of the individual colleges/universities you are applying to if you are applying early.
COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMS/TESTS
• SAT ACT• SAT II (subject area tests)• ACCUPLACER
• Most public two‐year colleges and technical schools in Georgia (UNG requires SAT/ACT)
• Armed Services Vocational Battery Aptitude (ASVAB)
• November 15, 2017

Should I test Again?
• Did you have any problems during the test, like misunderstanding the directions or feeling ill?
• Do you think your scores do not accurately represent your abilities?
• Are your scores what you expected based on your high school grades?
• Have you taken more coursework or an intensive review?
Letters of Recommendation
Letters of recommendation are written only when requested.
Find the Student Brag. (See QR code provided)Student should supply counselor and teachers with a Brag sheet or resume when they request a recommendation
Plan ahead – Your child must allow two weeks for his/her counselor to complete his/her letter of recommendation
The student’s part of the application is expected to be completed beforehand.

How to Calculate a GPA
Conversion ChartA = 4B = 3C = 2F = 0
How to Calculate:1. Multiply the number of A’s by 4, the number of B’s by 3, the number of
C’s by 2, and the number of F’s by 0. 2. Add together to get the total.3. Divide the total in #2 by the total number of classes taken.
How to Calculate a GPA - Example
No. of A’s = 2 X 4 = 8
No. of B’s = 1 X 3 = 3
No. of C’s = 1 X 2 = 2
No. of F’s = 0 X 0 = 0
Total = 4 13
GPA = 3.25 (13 divided by 4)
1. Student A has the following grades for last semester. Complete her GPA.
1. English B
2. Algebra C
