Do any ONE of the following: Project 1: Role of govt. /Non-govt. functionaries in your locality in Disaster Management

Interview any two of the govt. /Non-govt. functionaries in your locality on their role in Disaster

Management

4. Head of any NGO working in your locality –dealing in disaster management

5. Police Inspector, Superintendent of police

6. Civil Defence Warden/elected representatives

10. School Principal OR Carry out a survey in your locality by enquiring from at least 20 persons from

different walks of life in your locality or school on the areas in Disaster Management and preparedness

plans developed by them.

Prepare a report on the areas where awareness is needed and find out the local resources available to

create awareness.

Project 2-Manual for Disaster Management Choose to be any authority on Disaster Management,

such as a village Sarpanch, District Magistrate, Police Inspector or Fire Services Officer.

Formulate laws or rules to be followed in a disaster for the most vulnerable groups . Study the available

precautions and Rules-Fire Safety.

Prepare a manual for your department’s officials to follow in an emergency. It should include rules to

follow for health, safety, relief availability and distribution, law and order etc.

Make separate pages for each.

Project 3-Pocket guide on first Aid Prepare a pocket guide on first aid for your school.

the first aid pocket guide should contain aid that needs to be given for fractures, fainting, snake bite

, poisonings, cuts and burns, heat and cold wave and for other threats that are relevant in that area. The

content shared in the guide should be supported with adequate labelled diagrams so as to give a clear and

elaborate understanding about the topic.

Project 4-Institutional Case Study on Disaster Response Visit a local NGO/Agency like Red Cross/

National Cadet Corp(NCC), Bharat Scouts and Guides etc. and prepare a case study on how any

one of the agencies played a major role in Disaster Response, Significance of their role, action plan,

resource planning activities and experiences.

Project 5-Communication facilities for disaster management There are various means of

communication during a disaster like radio/satellite/television clubs and government departments like

Indian Meteorological Department etc. Choose any one method of communication from the above and

find out how the information is disseminated by them at various levels during disasters. Prepare a report.

A visit to All India Radio, Doordarshan, Indian Meteorological department will benefit.

Project 6-Preparation of Disaster Contingency Plan Prepare a contingency Plan either for your

school or home/community. The plan should be based on an actual survey of your area/locality or

school. The plan prepared should consist of the following map, inventory of resources available and a

seasonal calendar highlighting the seasons prone to various hazards prevalent in that locality/school.

MOVEMENTS: Content coverage

1. Case study on any one popular struggle or movement in the world OR India

Learning objective: Students will analyse the different ways through which an ordinary citizen can play

an extra - ordinary role in a democracy.

Execution of task: Research and Prepare a Case study on any one the following popular movements:

a) Environmental Movement

b) Feminist Movement

c) Human Rights Movement

d) Indigenous Peoples Movement

In your Case study highlight the following:

The origins, nature and reasons for the movement/struggle.

The difference between a movement, revolt and revolution.

The different types of movements.

The objective, contributions of different organisations/leaders and pressure groups behind the popular

movement.

Collect newspaper articles/reports about the movement or struggle you have chosen and interpret the

relationship between the activists, political parties and government.

Research on the present status of the movement

Project should be developed and presented in the following order : . The project report will be developed and presented in the following order:
