The new year always gets me excited about new beginnings, new goals and new items to be crossed off my bucket list. First of all, we can finally cross off 2020, which I am sure was not much fun for any of us! Like me, I’m sure many of you found it difficult to stay away from friends and family and enjoying all the art opportunities that we have become accustomed to here. The arts improve our quality of life while providing occasions for fellowship -- and that’s something we could all use more of right now. At the art center, we follow the guidelines of the city and the state Department of Public Health to help keep our public safe. Restrictions are still in place, including requiring our patrons to wear a mask in the theater and in most of our classes. Rest assured, we will continue to do our best until the day comes when we don’t have to worry so much about distance.

In the new year, we will continue to offer you quality entertainment, engaging exhibitions, a variety of special events and a multitude of learning opportunities, while observing sensible health precautions. This semester, some of our highlights include: the Artist Guild Juried Show, Remix, the 42nd Annual National Watercolor Exhibition, hosted by the Georgia Watercolor Society, a Teen Theatre production called Salem’s Daughter and a Tribute to Lewis Grizzard.

New fall classes, including digital photography editing, drumming and oil painting, join all your favorite courses, all brought to you by our faculty of talented and passionate educators. We offer a wide spectrum of content for everyone, from the curious novice to the advanced practitioner. Explore this publication and find what best suits you.

I hope you will drop in and participate. Audience and class sizes are limited due to social distancing, so register soon and buy tickets early.

We look forward to seeing you in 2021 at your local art center.

Sincerely,

Tim ChapmanSuperintendent of Arts

Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. It provides grace and poise while helping dancers with posture, flexibility, fitness, balance, self-discipline and self-confidence. For the safety of the student, class placement is based on where the student will benefit the most due to their technical ability, not by age. Once placement has been determined, dancers will remain in that class for the full academic year. To schedule your evaluation, contact Tim Chapman at [email protected] or 770-838-1083.

Level III & IV dancers may be eligible for Pre-Pointe or Pointe class. Pre-Pointe is a supplemental class that increases the strength of the calf muscles and ankles needed for dancing on Pointe. To register for Pre-Pointe or Pointe, students must receive recommendation from their ballet instructor.

This is the third year that Peggy’s School of Dance has offered clogging at the Center for the Arts. (Clogging classes will begin on January 13. Classes will not meet on April 7.)
