No provenance, but treated well over the years and recently refurbished.

Typical German/Swiss style off-hand Schutzen competition rifle. Full-stock to

33,5" heavy octagonal barrel tapering from 1 1/8 inch at the chamber to

15/16ths inch at the muzzle. Relatively good slow twist rifled bore with deep

crown. Hooked buttplate, patch box, pistol grip type triggerguard. Working set

triggers. Steel mounts. Stock professionally refinished, good to good plus

condition but for missing ramrod and rearsight elevation blade.

B2 .54cal. European Percussion Rifle R 2250.00

European styling. Octagon to round 26" multi-grooved barrel with 4,25" of

barrel protruding at muzzle. Lacking fore-sight. Brass mounts, no provision

for ramrod. Wooden patch box in butt. Adjustment facility to rear sight,

foresight missing. Should clean-up well.

B3 .60cal. European Percussion Rifle R 1500.00

Very similar styling to B2 but larger bore. Hammer retaining screw broken as

is point of brass triggerguard. Front sling swivel loop missing.

A classic example of the Germanic Schutzen off-hand target rifle. Heavy 35"

fullstock octagonal barrel with deeply rifled bore. Ornate brass trigger guard

with finger curves and heavy brass hooked butt plate are typical, as is

backward facing sidelock. Deep rollover cheekpiece. Well-figured walnut that

would clean-up well. A very ornate rifle with potential.

B5 12ga S/S Percussion Shotgun R 850.00

Some surface pitting to 21" Damascus barrels. Left hand nipple missing. Fair

to good condition.

F14 7,62mm FN-Fal ex-Rhodesian Army Rifle R 12500.00

Rifle modified for use by one-handed operator. Very interesting provenance to

rifle. Extra pistol grip fitted to the mid-fore-arm with extension to the trigger

allowing for one-armed operation. Black plastic stock, grips and forearm with

typical Rhodesian camo paint finish. Rifle was reputedly built by Rhodesian

Army, 3rd Brigade armourer, Corporal Ian Bernett, for a Selous Scout

operative who had lost an arm in a mortar explosion and had been medically

downgraded, preventing him from going on ops. Feedback is that he

demonstrated his rifle-handling ability with the modified rifle to Genl. Walls at

Army Headquarters who then personally approved his reinstatement to ops.

Rifle build details have been confirmed by a fellow-armourer.

Model of 1885, made in 1886. Portuguese military order which was cancelled

and taken up by ZAR. Lever action, falling block single shot rifle. Cartridge

was for black powder. 32 inch barrel, bore is passable. The ZAR bought

several thousands immediately prior to the 2nd Anglo-Boer war. Very much a

collector's piece with a unique action operated by a single leaf spring. Very

strong ejecting action. Good original.

rifle was ordered from C&H by W.W. Palmer, 2nd Earl of Selborne KG,

GCMG, PC in 1905 whilst serving as First Lord of the Admiralty. Lord

Selborne succeeded Lord Milner in the same year as High Commissioner of

South Africa and Governor of the Transvaal & Orange River colonies. He built

a reputation as a" peacemaker" and did much to unite English & Afrikaans

communities post Boer War. He retired in 1910.

No employee of Classic Arms is authorised to make any written or verbal warranty or statement on behalf of Classic Arms or our consignors. 9. If we undertake packaging or handling of any lots on the purchaser’s behalf it is done so entirely at the purchasers risk. We are not liable for any acts or omissions of carriers or packers including those recommended by us. Such carriers or packers may carry there own insurance and any claims for loss or damage should be addressed directly to them. 10. These Conditions of Sale and the respective rights of the purchaser and Classic Arms, are governed by the laws of South Africa. By bidding at an auction in person, or by agent, order-bid or telephone or other means, the buyer or bidder agrees to be bound by these Conditions of Sale. Any dispute controversy or claim arising out of or relating to this Agreement, or the breach, termination or validity thereof, brought by or against Classic Arms (but not including claims brought against the consignor by the purchaser of the lots consigned hereunder) shall be resolved by the parties in 10. These Conditions of Sale, shall bind the successors and assigns of all bidders and purchasers and inure to the benefit of successors and assigns. No waiver amendment or modification of the terms hereof (other than posted notices or oral announcements during the sale) shall bind us unless specifically stated in writing signed by us. 11. Absentee Bids. As a service to those bidders that are unable to attend the actual auction, we may at our sole discretion accept bids in advance of sale by telephone, or in writing on the bidding forms provided in the back of the sale catalogue. Please note that we cannot accept “buy” bids and all bids must clearly state the maximum (excluding buyers premium and any applicable taxes) bid that the bidder is willing to pay. In the event that identical absentee bids are received then the first bid received shall take preference. In the event that the maximum absentee bid is equalled by any bid from the auction floor, then the auction floor bid shall take preference. We accept no responsibility for not executing an absentee bid for any reason whatsoever. 12. Estimate prices. As a service to our clients, we furnish presale estimates for all lots. These estimates are intended as a guide to current market value and represent no warranty to bidder or seller as to the actual price. Bidding normally begins at 50% of the estimate but the final price may be more or less than the estimate value. 13. Sale Increments. The following increments apply to all lots bid for. Please note that the auctioneer will increment the purchase price at these rates and not at any rate bid from the floor.
