Press Release_______________________________________________________The University of Texas at Arlington Division for Enterprise Development has been selected to conduct the Texas Construction Career Academy (TCCA) for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The TCCA, funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration, will provide training to traditionally underrepresented populations across Texas. The valuable training and credentials that graduates receive will significantly improve their prospects for gaining employment with heavy-highway construction in the highway construction industry.

Students will receive two weeks of training covering the following areas:

• Introduction to the Transportation Construction Industry • Forklift Training • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Course (including OSHA wallet card) • Certified Flagger Course (including UT Arlington wallet card) • Understanding of Safe Operations within a Work Zone • Introduction to Preventative Maintenance and Safe Operations of Vehicles and Equipment • Commercial Driver’s License Exam Preparation and conduct of the written examination. • Trenching Excavation Competent Person Training certification • Resume Creation and Interview Techniques (including hands-on activities resulting in the creation of an individual resume and feedback from a practice interview) • Job placement assistance will be available
