Positive and Negative Reinforcement – teachers should use reinforcement to handle

stduents’ behaviour – teacher needs to use a behaviour modification system to monitor

and evaluate the behaviour in the classroom – must keep a record of when how why an

incident of misbehaviour in classroom

Reinforcement - Peneguhan

(Skinner’s Theory) Positive Reinforcement – motivation, presents, rewards, touch as well

as inspirational words can influence the change of behaviour of students.

Two Types of Rewards (+ve reinforcement) – 1 Primer Reward - give milk, food 2

Condition Rewards – stars, tokens, high marks, social acceptance, words of praise,

games (i.e. pupil is asked to become teacher’s assistant, taking care of the class pet, 5

to 10 minutes of free activities, praise note to the parents, pupils are given free time to

misbehaviour is low or improbable – reverse psychology: “make as much noise as you

can” when students are making too much noise – Shaping: keeps moving about in the

classroom, the teacher must do something to stop this occurrence, set a task for

students that will distract or stop them from misbehaving

Economy Token : Everytime pupil show a positive behaviour they will be given a token by

the teacher (colourful cards : blue card for 10 marks, yellow card for 5 marks. Say, if the

student get 30 marks, she will get a present from the teacher.

Contract Social : written contract promising good behaviour and punishment is doled out

if contract is violated

Time-out : If student is not able to control himself, he is given a time-out (leave the class,

sit in the corner)

Modelling : choose a student (peer) and make the student as the example for other pupils

in the class – encourage students to imitate good behaviour of role models such as the

Prime Minister or other respectable names.
